Pictured here are comedy legends Dan Aykrod and John Belushi as their iconic characters from The Blues Brother. Founded in 1978 by Aykroyd and Belushi as a musical sketch for Saturday Night Live, The Blues Brothers hit the big screen in 1980. Directed by John Landis, the classic film surrounds paroled convict Jake Blues and his brother Elwood as they seek redemption by taking a "mission from god." That "mission" being to reform their blues band and raise funds to save the Catholic orphanage where they grew up.
Michelle Pfeiffer's early career is littered with "blond bimbo-type" roles. One of which was a sorority girl on the short-lived spinoff of the film Animal House titled, Delta House. The series only ran for one season in 1979 and consisted of "the raucous exploits of Faber College's Delta House Fraternity in 1962" When looking back at this stage of her career, Pfeiffer will be the first to tell you she had a long way to go. In fact, what she later said of her early work: "I needed to learn how to act... in the meantime, I was playing bimbos and cashing in on my looks." Photo from PINTEREST
Before becoming the First Lady, Jackie Bouvier almost married another man; World War II veteran and Wall Street Banker John Husted. She was just 22 years old at the time and quickly grew to hate the idea of becoming a housewife. By March she called the whole wedding off and mere months later started dating John F Kennedy who was a U.S. congressman at the time. She met Kennedy at a dinner-party in Georgetown, and the two hit it off. The couple had been dating for two years when he proposed, they were married in September of 1953. Photo from REDDIT
Feature : Airport Photos
This yoga-loving pilot decided to pose for a picture sitting in the engine of the plane. She posts quirky photos like this on social media. That's all very well, as long as this photo doesn't make its way into a training manual for pilots. The last thing one wants to feed impressionable young minds is ideas that can get them reduced to a bloody pulp. It is never a good idea to place yourself in such proximity to a machine that can pulverize you.

For the summer season, SALT Gallery (830 Fleming St., is featuring a new collection of whimsical mixed media paintings by local artist Kreg Kelley. To celebrate Kreg's new works, SALT had an opening reception Friday, July 6th.. The Exhibition will be up ALL SUMMER
A Key West based artist as of summer 2013, Kreg won his first art award at the age of 12 with the 'Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards Program' for a drawing entitled 'Holocaust.' Throughout his teenage life he experimented in different artistic mediums, but it wasn't until 2003 that his art became more of a full-on hobby. Aside from abstraction and 3D works on canvas, he incorporates damaged antique engravings and artifacts from the 18
th
century into his pieces. Several of his pieces are in world-renowned chef Gerry Garvin's restaurant in Hollywood and he participated in a group show in NYC featuring works by Yoko Ono. In the summer of 2010 his painting of "Washington, DC: Night in the City Series" was chosen to be featured in the national calendar for the American Civil Liberties Union.

On Tuesday, August 7, the Sheriff's Office sponsored National Night Out events in the Upper, Middle and Lower Keys. All of the events featured food, refreshments, and a great chance to meet your neighbors, members of the Sheriff's Office from a wide variety of divisions, departments and special teams and many others who are involved in the field of public safety here in the Florida Keys.
The goal of National Night Out is to bring the community together to discuss how we can all make our neighborhoods cleaner, safer and more secure. The Sheriff's Office had crime prevention information at the event. Community members learned how to heighten their crime and drug prevention awareness.
The Sheriff's Office hopes to generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Everyone participating sent a message to criminals letting them know that Monroe County neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.
"This annual event is important to us, because it's an opportunity for us to meet the people we serve in a more relaxed setting," said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
Each event - depending on the area - featurde displays of the Sheriff's Office elite units such as the Dive Team, SWAT, Crime Scene Investigation, among others. And was joined by many of our partners such as the Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Highway Patrol, park services, Monroe County Fire Rescue and other fire districts, Monroe County schools, business chambers, and many, many more!

2018 SOLSTICE STUDENT EXHIBITION
In mid-June, a group of watercolor enthusiasts met each night at the beach, just before sunset, with paints, brushes and open imaginations. Led by beloved Key West-New York artist Susan Sugar, the students learned new ways of observing the ephemeral shapes and transitory moods of the evening sky. Presented are a selection of the small format watercolors they created.

Matt Stock is a Florida native who finds inspiration in the natural elements of water, earth, and sky. Also drawn toward untold stories and subjects that are looking for a voice and a champion, he works cooperatively with national and state parks, non-profit organizations, and historical societies to raise awareness about the world around us. Matt Stock has been recognized by his peers being juried into national art exhibitions and earning him several international awards.
Matt's area of expertise is in creating hyper-realistic nighttime photographs with a technique called Painting with Light in the Dark
®
in which he and his team meticulously illuminate a scene on location using light sources ranging from the Milky Way and full moon to specialized lighting tools through the course of many hours and hundreds of individual exposures. He then digitally weaves elements of each of these exposures into a single luminous composition in post-production using Adobe Photoshop. Everything seen in his work was captured in real time and on location. Some photographs can only happen once a year, some even less frequently. In the SAGER GALLERY . See Matt's Contact Info. and Website / Facebook in his Lead Feature at the Beginning of this Issue.
As discussed in the Beginning of this Issue & Matt Stock's Sneak Preview of his On-Line Photographic Exhibition as a Companion to his Exhibition at TSKW : We will have Many of His Photographs in the next two issues . Once again his Exhibition at TSKW is (MUST ATTEND)

Part 2 "Animal Buddies"
Leo the Lion, Baloo the bear, and Shere Khan the tiger: These three animals were rescued from an abusive human owner and they were inseparable because of what they went through. They now live in Georgia at the Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary.
Emperor shrimp and sea slugs: Although emperor shrimp normally live inside sea cucumbers, they will occasionally hop a ride on the back of sea slugs for a scenic little trip around the ocean floor while they feast on the debris the slugs kick up.
Anjana the chimpanzee and a tiger cub: After a hurricane separated this white tiger from his mother, he was adopted by an animal reserve and immediately became smitten with Anjana, a chimpanzee who also lived there. The two quickly became the best of buddies!
Lammie the goat and Gertjie the rhino: Gertjie and Lammie were both abandoned by their families as babies, and they were brought to a South African animal sanctuary where they formed a special bond. What's their favorite activity? Running around and bumping heads with each other!

THE LONG ISLAND BLACK ARTIST ASSOCIATION
was founded in 1968 by a small group of artists namely, James Counts and Ernest Snell, Raymond Miles, and Charles Winslow. The purpose of the association is to help African-American artist find a conduit for the exhibition of their work. To that end it has continually sought new venues for exhibiting the work of its' members locally, nationally and internationally and has also encouraged the artist's individual efforts to find recognition.
The organization has also had other goals; to provide an atmosphere of fellowship in which professional and semi professional artists could exchange ideas, techniques and mutual support in the field of visual arts; to discover potential talent; to provide a cultural service to the community and offer a "sensitive environment" for the cultural expression of the larger African-American community. The Association is the only such supportive group in the Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk .
Through out the years the association has exhibited in many museums, galleries, colleges, universities, libraries, churches, and corporations through out the country. Works by individuals are in collections in the U.S.A., Canada, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe.

Honoring City Clerk Cheri Smith for 25 Years, Jennifer Averette Brings Home Bronze in Special Olympic Games, KWFD Promotes Tyrone Cervantes to Captain, Back to School Safety Tips.
ENCORE INFORMATION that is certainly GREAT TO REPEAT
Crime in Key West dropped by almost 12 percent for the first six months of the year, when compared to the first half of 2017, a statistic that reflects the ongoing trend of reduced crime in the city. Non-violent crime dropped by 13.6 percent, while the number of violent crimes remained about the same.
Each year the Key West Police Department reports its crime statistics to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. These numbers are compiled for the first six months of the year, and then again for an overall annual tally. The statistics are compiled for the entire state by the FDLE in its Uniform Crime Reporting system.
There were fewer burglaries when comparing the first six months of 2017 to the beginning of 2018. There were 49 reported last year and just 26 in the same time period this year. Burglaries of conveyances were also down, with just 20 in 2018 compared with 30 for the first half of 2017. Bicycle thefts - a common problem in Key West - dropped from 86 for the first half of 2017 to 67 in the first half of this year.
Police Chief Donie Lee is always cautious about using the mid-year numbers to ascertain trends. However, year in and year out, he stresses that it's the partnership between the community and the Department that has set the overall trend. "Home and car burglaries continue to drop," he said. "I attribute much of that to residents' and visitors' awareness. The simple act of locking the doors and windows of your home and your car can make a difference in the numbers of these crimes of opportunity."
NEW INFORMATION
Police Chief Donie Lee this week swore three new officers in at the Key West Police Department.
Officer Kenneth Beerbower was born and raised in Key West and formerly served as with the Key West Police Department. More recently, he served with the Gainesville Police Department.
Officer Andrew Hudson is a former Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy and a native Floridian.
Officer Gregory Whipple, also a native of Florida, is a former Florida Marine Patrol officer.

Battle of Bars Boosts Boys & Girls Club and Sister Season Fund Missions-
This year's Battle of the Bars benefactors - Boys and Girls Clubs of the Keys Area, Inc. and Sister Season Fund- pause amid the flurry of fun at the Schooner Wharf Bar event that took place Sunday, August 5th, where local bar squadron relay teams of seven tapped kegs, mixed margaritas, sorted recyclables, and ran through obstacle courses while consuming alcohol- all in the name of charity. Pictured left to right are Mayor Craig Cates, Boys & Girls Club Board Chair Bill Archer and Assistant Executive Director Susan Kent, Schooner Wharf Bar Proprietor and event sponsor Evalena Worthington, Sister Season Fund Board President Julie Hanson and Board member Ryan Macauley, City Manager Jim School, Boys & Girls Club Operations Director Cece Williamson and Executive Director Dan Dombroski. The raucous event- co-sponsored this year by Stoli Vodka, Michelob Ultra, Pepsi Refreshment Services, Herradura Tequila, Monster Energy Drink and Sun 99.5 Radio-has raised over $350 thousand dollars over the last 25 years, with this year's $12,400 raised to support the two nonprofits with their mission.

ALSO MISHA McRAE tells us :
The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Key West and the Monroe County Sheriffs' Department to do a great children's summer program that you might be interested in. Please find attached pictures and accompanying article from Stock Island Times.
Keys Kids Create Change: flip your lid for the Garden
Through the joint partnership with the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden's Education Department, the Boys and Girls Club of the Florida Keys and partially funded by the Monroe County Sheriffs' Shared Asset Fund, Keys Kids Create Change is designed to involve our community youth and raise awareness of the importance of recycling and keeping our beaches clean this summer.
"The concept was created by Key West Botanical Garden Society's Living Lab Educators, DeAnna Cordani - Education Manager, and Robin Sarabia - Education Assistant, with collaboration with councilors from the Boys and Girl Club to allow the children to decide and design what they wanted to do," said Misha McRAE, Executive Director of the Key West Botanical Garden.
The project consists of a large piece of art, mural per say, to draw attention in a creative way to the need for recycling materials and clean up our environment. Made from plastic bottle caps and lids collected from our beaches and around town, it will be traveling art and exhibited around the community once completed.
'We are very proud of the ideas and creativity we have observed in the Boys & Girls Club youth during their time at the Garden, and we eagerly look forward to helping them during this project," said Education Manager DeAnna Cordani.
"This is just one of the many exciting and fun education programs at the Botanical Garden to incorporate education and nature through hands-on STEM (even getting down and dirty) projects that immerse all students: public, charter, home school and at risk youth in nature, to experience biodiversity of the Keys, conservation and community action," said Misha McRAE, "creating an opportunity to spark student interest in not only science, but in protecting our environment".
The project is currently underway at the Boys and Girls Club, 1316 Reynolds Street, Key West, Florida.

THE SMART RIDE 15 (TSR)
Our Good Friend and talented Award Winning Author Rodney Ross shares with our 7895 Readers Two Events Scheduled in the Next Few Days
Two Duval Street nightspots will be dedicating special evenings in mid-August to the Key West Mile Markers and The SMART Ride 15 (TSR).
First up: AQUA Key West, 711 Duval, has devised a special 'Aqua Idol' to benefit the local biking team on Tuesday, August 14th, starting at 6:30 p.m..
"We hold these unique, 1-night-only, events infrequently," commented AQUA general manager Kimball Ingram. "As a Rider myself for 2018, I know one of the keys to bolstering team enthusiasm plus raising money and awareness is bringing our message to the community. 'Aqua Idol' is a fun platform to 'sing out' our story!"
Participating singers at press time include Larry Smith, Laura Richardson, Kristen McNamara, Dave
Bootle and Shawn Montgomery.
Five days later, on Sunday, Mangoes, 700 Duval, will devote their Sunday After Tea Dance Party on August 19
th to the Key West Mile Markers.
From 7 p.m. until closing, the community is invited to join the team, past present and future, crew and cheerleaders to the evening, started three months ago as a nod back to the fondly-remembered Sunday Tea Dances from the Atlantic Shores era.
"We're looking forward to working with the Mile Markers for a successful event," said private events/restaurant manager Carlos E. Sopo. "The enthusiasm they bring to this community, not to mention the fundraising for HIV/AIDS Agencies like A. H. of Monroe County, is amazing. We look forward to DJ Nick making dancers out of the bikers with our resident DJ in the upstairs Ricky Ricardo Room!"
Admission to both nights is free.
The annual, 165-mile journey from Miami to Key West in mid-November enlists riders, crew and supporters to equally assist the Florida agencies participating in TSR: AH, Pridelines, Broward House, Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Metro Wellness and Community Centers, Miracle of Love, Inc. and Compass Community Center.
Locally, the Mile Markers can be found on FACEBOOK at
http://tinyurl.com/n46jt3r; Team Co-Captains Donald Gene Dotzauer and/or Karen Frank-Noll can be messaged from there.
