During the recent City Commission meeting, Commissioner Richard Payne presented John Leigh McKillip with a City challenge coin and announced the naming of Lake McKillip in New Town.
The "lake" is a salt pond, one of three located along the Salt Run Creek. It abuts 10
th
Street and covers about four acres of saltwater habitat.
McKillip, born and raised in Key West, built his house in 1960 in the neighborhood that overlooks the lake. He raised his family there and has spent many years on its waters.
he original request to name the body of water came from McKillip's son Alan.
"Growing up on the 'first pond' was great!" he wrote in a letter to Commissioner Payne. "My dad and I built several pram and skiff styled boats which were launched in the pond... We used to have row boat races in the pond."
The designation is in honor of McKillip's 60 years of service, caring for the lake. Commissioner Payne noted that the lake has never been named, and that McKillip - who lives next to the lake --- has for decades cleaned up around the lake and kept it in its park-like condition.

Hi all! I've had a very busy show season this year with Continuum WPB, live Painting two shows at Art Serve and Art Ft Lauderdale - this was an exiting show to be a part of, the concept was to put art into high end show homes and viewers access each exhibit via water taxi. I will be posting updates on next year's show so keep a look out for that!
I've also been flexing my wings with some clothing and jewelry design. The dress I'm wearing in the photos is a painting printed onto fabric then made into a unique garment. More prints and designs to come in the near future. Feel free to message me if interested in a dress, top or scarf, there are a few different prints to choose from.
The birch bark jewelry is also a project I've been exited to be working on recently, and will have a few pieces at Paul's Gallery on July 21. I'm Also Looking Forward to Our November 2018 Art Exhibition at Gildea Contemporary Fine Art Gallery. Hazel.

For the summer season, SALT Gallery (830 Fleming St., will feature a new collection of whimsical mixed media paintings by local artist Kreg Kelley. To celebrate Kreg's new works, SALT had an opening reception at the gallery. on Friday, July 6th. TheExhibition will be up for at least 4 weeks; and our Next Issue will have photos of some of the works.
A Key West based artist as of summer 2013, Kreg won his first art award at the age of 12 with the 'Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards Program' for a drawing entitled 'Holocaust.' Throughout his teenage life he experimented in different artistic mediums, but it wasn't until 2003 that his art became more of a full-on hobby. Aside from abstraction and 3D works on canvas, he incorporates damaged antique engravings and artifacts from the 18
th century into his pieces. Several of his pieces are in world-renowned chef Gerry Garvin's restaurant in Hollywood and he participated in a group show in NYC featuring works by Yoko Ono. In the summer of 2010 his painting of "Washington, DC: Night in the City Series" was chosen to be featured in the national calendar for the American Civil Liberties Union. Due to Space Constraints ; Please go to the Last Issue to see the Complete Feature

Two forms of proof of Florida residency (such as a Florida driver's license and Florida vehicle registration).
Official test scores (SAT, ACT, and/or PERT).
New this fall semester, FKCC is introducing apprenticeships in Electrical and Carpentry. Students learn concepts in the classroom and practice their skills under the supervision of their sponsoring employer. Tuition is free and students earn a paycheck with incremental raises as they progress through the program.
FKCC is also still welcoming students to its newer programs, including the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management and the Associate in Science in Engineering Technology: Renewable Energy Technician.
