It's the talk of the town! Delight your choreodrama senses by experiencing
Martha Graham's Dance of Life, the pinnacle of the South Florida Symphony Orchestra's 20th Anniversary Season led by Founder|Music Director Sebrina Maria Alfonso . This enthralling evening features an historic collaboration between the world class Symphony and the legendary Martha Graham Dance Company, America's oldest dance company presenting some of the world's leading dancers. Martha Graham is widely recognized as a primal artistic force of the 20th. Century, along with Picasso, James Joyce, Igor Stravinsky, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Time magazine named her "Dancer of the Century" and People magazine tagged her among the female "icons of the Century." According to Janet Wilber, Company Artistic Director and former Principal Dancer, "Martha was a revolutionary who created a new and very American style of dancing." Wilber danced many of Graham's greatest roles including roles created for her by Graham. Since 2005, she has been teaching, lecturing, and directing Graham ballets internationally. Denise Vale, Senior Artistic Associate, joined the Company in 1985 and also attained Principal Dancer rank. During its 90-year history, the Company has received audience and critical acclaim in over 50 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Russia, and the Middle East.

Music in the Palm Garden
The Friends of the Key West Library presents "Music in the Palm Garden" featuring folk duo Hungrytown at 6pm, Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Library's Palm Garden, 700 Fleming St. Hungrytown's music has received extensive radio airplay worldwide and has appeared on several television shows, including Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," IFC's "Portlandia" and Netflix's "Lady Dynamite." We are currently prepping for the inaugural launch of the Key West Photography Festival! This juried competition + 4-day festival (Feb 8th-11th, 2018) will be located in beautiful Mallory Square in Key West, Florida, with a focus on contemporary photography. We will have rotating exhibits, panels, workshops, celebrity guests and much more! We are looking for sponsors, interns, volunteers and photographers. We are taking submissions. It will be free of charge and 2 (of your best!) photos can be submitted. It will be a general entry for local and non-local photographers. We will have featured photographers and exhibitions by sponsored organizations such as Nat Geo, United Photo Industries, and the Key West Historical Society.
The festival is headed by Quincy Perkins (of the film festival) and he, myself, and a team will be available to address any questions you may have.

Key West Garden Club Meeting Jan 8
Garden Club member, Colin Cabot is hosting the showing of "the Gardener", a new movie about his father's fabulous creation - the "Quatre Temps" gardens in Canada.
The event will be a Fund Raiser for the Garden Club to help pay for the restoration of the gardens post IRMA.
The Studios of Key West have kindly agreed to host the event free of charge, in their large theater on the second floor of 533 Eaton street on

The movie is a feast for the senses - anyone with any interest in plants, gardening and creativity should not miss this spectacular film, which has been selected by all the major Film Festivals worldwide.

Lucky Street Gallery's new exhibit " Temporal Convergence" will feature three distinctive artists examining strong Key West themes.
Janice Colbert explores angular minimalism with her paintings and sculptures in "Key West House Series". Seth Smith's offbeat paintings unveil glimpses of airstreams and daydreams upon the streets of Key West. Jim Toia's otherworldly rubbings of Key West trees exemplify his fascination for the flora of the island.
The Artists' Reception for "Temporal Convergence" will be during Walk on White, 6-8pm, January 18, with a brief "Artists Talk" at 6:30 pm. Stop in anytime prior to the Reception for a preview! Our hours are 11am-6pm Monday-Saturday, 1204 White St.

$10 suggested donation at the door. All funds raised from this event goes to Zonta's program providing mammograms for un-insured and under-insured women in the Florida Keys.

Faculty, staff, and friends of Florida Keys Community College brought dozens of toys for local children to the College's annual Caribbean Holiday Party on Tuesday hosted by FKCC President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra and his wife Josephine. The toys were donated to Samuel's House, a Keys-based non-profit organization that offers housing and supportive services for homeless women and intact families.
"The faculty, staff, and friends of the College are more than just employees who do their jobs and collect a paycheck. Their generosity at times like these demonstrates their commitment to help the less fortunate in our community," praised Gueverra.

Jill Caldwell was born in Quincy, Massachusetts. She received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in 1997. After graduation she promptly moved to Key West, an island she had fallen in love with as a child. "I knew this magical island with its bold vivid colors, gorgeous sunlight, and translucent ocean was a place I needed to call home," she says. While living here, she met her future husband and, on a whim in 2005, they left Key West and moved to Rockland, Maine. She now splits her time between Key West and Maine.

The Board of Directors of the Anne McKee Artists Fund, Inc. announces the date of Friday, February 9, 2018 for their annual fine art auction. The auction will again take place at The Studios of Key West. Friend of The Studios,
As this wild ride of a year comes to a close, I suspect we're all thinking of the gifts we've given, and the ones we've received, the chapter that's closing, and
the one that's about to begin.
At The Studios, we have so much to be grateful for: a sturdy home on a beautiful island,
a community of friends
, a tireless pool of volunteers, and a bounty of artistic talent all around us. All this has been given to us.
In return, we take joy from sustaining a place
where people discover their creative selves, where our community gathers around art and conversation, and from helping artists thrive in their careers.
This Fall, after Irma, we had even more opportunities to give back: housing schoolteachers in our artist cottages, steering artists towards grants, raising money with a sold out benefit concert, and more.
Our fiscal year at The Studios ends in June, so as much as we count on year-end giving, we'll be working for the next six months to meet our goals. However, as you're probably aware, the
changes in the new US tax bill
mean that if you plan to make a gift this season, you're more likely to see a tax benefit if you do so before December 31.
Now is the time to give!
The Studios has come to feel like a fixture in Key West,
but the truth is we're only able to keep going each year thanks to friends like you lifting us up, time and again. As you weigh the things you've been given this holiday season, and where you'll feel good about giving back, I hope you'll consider helping The Studios.

Key West Art & Historical Society presents "On the Waterfront: Truman Annex Artists," an exhibit that puts the spotlight on a relatively unaccounted for era of creativity that helped launch some of the island's most celebrated artists. The exhibit features historic and contemporary works of some of the artists that rented spaces for use as studios in decommissioned naval warehouses, machine-shops, and residential facilities between 1974-1986, after the U.S. Navy abandoned their base in the present-day Truman Annex. HISTORIC WALKING TOURS BY SHARON WELLS
For history buffs or anyone seeking insight into the classic architecture of Key West, Key West Art & Historical Society will host a series of educational and entertaining walking tours led by local artist and historian Sharon Wells on select Saturdays from January through March. The first is to take place on Saturday, January 13 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, with a focus on Truman Annex and Historic Whitehead Street.

(R) The Key West Art & Historical Society and Isle Cook Key West once again join forces to present the "Conch Revival Picnic"- a picnic-style Conch heritage dinner and co-benefit for Grimal Grove prepared by acclaimed chefs Martha Hubbard and Dave Furman on Wednesday, January 24 on the grounds of the Key West Lighthouse & Keeper's Quarters. This year's Conch Revival Picnic - the third so far - begins with a wine and appetizer pairing and music by Chilean guitarist Rolando Rojas from 5:00pm-6:00pm, followed by a 6:00-8:00pm dinner of classic Key West/Conch recipes featuring produce grown at Grimal Grove, the
historic two-acre Big Pine tropical fruit park dedicated to the local food movement.

(L) Key West Art & Historical Society to Celebrate Members and Supporters at Tennessee Williams Museum Soiree
On Thursday, January 18, Key West Art & Historical Society members and those with an interest in supporting Key West's arts and history are invited to enjoy complimentary libations and refreshments, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Tennessee Williams Museum, 513 Truman Avenue.
The museum, formerly the Tennessee Williams Key West Exhibit, recently merged with The Society, making the exhibit The Society's fourth museum and uniting the two organizations and their growing memberships of passionate Key West arts and history supporters. The evening will offer both established and new members an opportunity to mingle while exploring the world's largest collection of Pulitzer prize-winning writer Tennessee Williams' memorabilia and literary artifacts that is available to the public.

HISTORIC KEY WEST CEMETERY STROLL, JANUARY 27, 2018
The first Cemetery Stroll to be offered at the Historic Key West Cemetery this season will take place on January 27, 2018. During the stroll, small groups of visitors will be escorted to gravesites where interpreters will tell the stories of the deceased in brief monologues. The groups are scheduled for departures at 9:30, 9:50, and 10:10 Reservations are necessary, and can be made by calling 305-304-1453.
Among the gravesites to be visited are those of the Los Martires de Cuba, the Figueredo plot, the Benjamin Albury family restoration, the Otto plot, and Piedad Ayala.
The tour will take approximately 90 minutes. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and plan to walk over a mile on uneven ground. Bottled water will be provided.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn first-hand about some of the fascinating people who have given Key West its colorful and significant character. Space is limited for the tours and pre-registration is required. A donation of $20 (cash or check) per person to the Historic Florida Keys Foundation is recommended. Participants should enter the cemetery by the Frances Street gate and go to the registration table on 2
nd Ave.
Additional strolls will take place on February 24 and March 24.
The Cemetery Strolls are sponsored by the City of Key West and the Historic Florida Keys Foundation.

Mote's Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital admitted nine endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles and one threatened green sea turtle Friday - helping with a team effort to rehabilitate 46 cold-stunned turtles initially brought to the New England Aquarium (NEAQ) in Quincy, Massachussetts.
