This evening talk is based on Lama Tsultrim Allione's new book: Wisdom Rising: Journey into the Mandala of the Empowered Feminine. A dynamic spiritual model based on 1000-year-old tradition from Tibet meets the gale force winds of the current world situation. She masterfully shows us of
wholeness, each of the five dakinis, embodiments of the fierce feminine, transforms an emotional  encumbrance into wisdom. The mandala brings strength from the inside out giving a practical method to become an effective agent of transformation in your world.
During this talk, after an introduction to the mandala and the dakini principle, you will be guided in a short experiential journey into the mandala of your innermost being, where the empowered feminine resides.
Followed by book signing. AT TSKW 7:30PM June 15

Mystery Fest Key West is June 22-24. Sherill Rhoades & Carol Tedesco send regards and Will be Updating The Keys Blast Readers about Mystery Fest Key West in the Next Few Issues. The May 6th. Issue will have a big announcement on A Guest Star.
New York Times Bestselling Author Ace Atkins to Headline Mystery Fest Key West 2018 in June - Registration is now open

Ace Atkins, the multi-award winning, "New York Times" bestselling author of twenty-one novels is to headline  a smash hit-list of mystery writers and true-crime experts at the 5th annual Mystery Fest Key West, set for June 22-24 in Key West, Florida.

Ranked among the topflight of mystery writers, in addition to several acclaimed stand-alone novels, Atkins has produced two highly successful series of his own conception-The Nick Travers series and the Quinn Colson series. In 2010, already firmly established as an A-list author, Atkins came to the aid of bereft Robert B. Parker "Spenser" fans when he was tapped by the late author's estate to continue the iconic private eye series - no small compliment, as Parker's character had spawned a passionate cult following sure to skewer a writer lacking the dexterity to accurately characterize the private investigator's street-smart yet cultivated persona.
Writing in flavors that range from Southern grit to Boston hard-boiled, and time-frames from historic to contemporary, Atkins, a former crime reporter for "The Tampa Tribune" has been nominated for every major award in crime
fiction along with a Pulitzer Prize nomination for investigative journalism.

"I can't think of a more fitting or beautiful spot to talk writing, editing, and publishing books over a few cocktails," said Atkins. "From To Have and Have Not" to "92 in the Shade" and John D. MacDonald to James W. Hall, Key West is the perfect place to contemplate the enduring fascination of crime fiction."

Joining Atkins at the popular celebration of sleuthing are Special Guest of Honor, the multi-award winning editor and publisher Otto Penzler - proprietor of "The Mysterious Book Shop" in New York City, and Special Guest Presenter, "New York Times" and "USA Today" bestselling author Heather Graham, along with " New York Times" b
estselling author Lisa Black, bestselling and award-winning author Nancy J. Cohen; "New York Times" bestselling author Diane A.S. Stuckart; "New York Times" bestselling co-
author
Charles Todd , and many others. EDITED DUE TO SPACE CONSTRAINTS ; PLEASE GO TO WEBSITE FOR ADDITIONAL INFO.

SKIPPER KRIPITZ GIGS

Hi folks, here's some  skippomusik gigs thus far in the Merry Month of May:

Sat. 5/26@6:30pm. The CRZBs Trio@ Blue Heaven w/ Crizz & Rob.
Tues. 5/29@9pm. Raven, Megan & skippo@ Virgilio's.
Sat. 6/2 @7pm. Scott Marischen Harp Quartet@ Sq. Grouper w/ Debbie Spring, & Rusty Hecht
6/3 @ 5:30PScott Marischen Harp Quartet @ Gardens Hotel w/ Debbie Spring, & Rusty Hecht
On Tuesday May 29th@9pm, Virgilio's weekly 'League of Crafty Musicians' series proudly presents the return of the "Thunderdome of Love", Miz Raven Cooper, on acoustic guitar & phenom vocals. A hybrid musical genre unto herself, there is nothing like an Americana & global Raven music show, with tunes that span from early 20th century Tin Pan Alley Songbook right up to modern pop, rock, & reggae.  Rhythm section support comes from Megan Clay on keyboards (with left hand basslines!), & skippo on percussives.  Based on their last outing, this trio can transform Virgilio's into an intimate concert venue. Come....., experience the magick, on the 29th, at 524 Duval (rear door,  on Appelrouth lane).  Call 296-1075 for more info.

The 'CRZBs Roots Trio plays (for the first time, in this 'economy version' of the original  group!), at Blue Heaven @6:30pm on Saturday May 26th, & the very next afternoon, Sunday the 27th @1pm at the Salty Angler. The musical program will include Pat Metheney-inspired, modern guitar fusion, some Sting, John Mayer, Boz, Marvin Gaye, and Steely Dan, etc., plus, an ample helping of jazzy & Brazilian grooves. Fronting the group, and featuring many of his original compositions, is Chris Burchard, on guitar, Rob DiStaci sings and plays keyboards, & skippo is on the drums. So catch this celebration of soulful jazz-rock/ funk-fusion with an intimate roots trio version of the CRZBs, at Blue Heaven on Saturday  (296-8666 for more info) & Sunday at Salty Angler (741-7071).

Here is 1 of 2 Walls for Fran ; This Wall is the New Exhibition "This Once Was Home"

Frangipani Gallery is featuring a series of hurricane inspired paintings by Fran Decker. 1102 Duval as part of the First Friday Art Stroll on Upper Duval.
Originally inspired by Hurricane Katrina, Fran Decker completed the series "This Once Was Home" just before Hurricane Irma devastated the Florida Keys.  These detailed surrealistic paintings depict broken shells set against stormy backgrounds that were once home to the mollusk that built it.  The intricate insides of the shells are revealed and tinted pink to remind the viewer that a living creature once lived inside and created its shell home. All of them are poignant reminders of what we had and what we lost in the storm.

Our Magazine Will have Multiple Photo Features from Many of the Artists in Frangipani : Deborah Moore, William Welch, Paul Carmichael, Mark Hacker, Sandy Sun, Suzann D'Antonio, Sharon Wells, Helen Rebane, Terri Dallao, Karen Beauprie. Here is a few works from the other Fran Decker Wall

Above "Diving Board#1" by Ciara Rafferty Oil on Perspex 36"X48" (R) "Miami Ready" by Lizzie Gill Mixed Media Oil on Canvas 46"X60"

Color-splashed retro imagery, glamorized nostalgia and leisure studies of bygone eras comprise Gill and Rafferty's hyper-stylized representations of wholesome values and pleasures of "The Good Old Days". Gone is the time of The Great American Road Trip, with its novelty of futuristic hotels and motels that brought families together with blithe poolside lounging and Atomic Age idols. Gill and Rafferty draw inspiration from the 1950s and 60s, a time that for many Americans represented hope, postwar prosperity and freedom. With imagery of the American dream portrayed throughold fashioned values and Hollywood romance, Gill and Rafferty explore the richly nostalgic context of the people, places and icons of days long passed that now exist in a liminal space. These images of carefree summer fun and untroubled leisure occupy the dreams and desires of our modern sensibilities as the contemporary world flies by in hyper speed.

Key West Art & Historical Society celebrates Captain Outrageous in "That's Outrageous!" Exhibit

The Key West Art & Historical Society celebrates the acclaimed late Key West artist Captain Outrageous in " That's Outrageous!," a retrospective featuring more than 40 works that explores his pop art style across several different mediums.  The exhibit opened  April 13, with a special reception held from 6:00pm-8:30pm in the Bryan Gallery at the Custom House Museum, 281 Front Street.

Spanning nearly four decades in Key West, Captain Outrageous imprinted his indelible mark on the island with both his colorful artwork and personality.  He made the world his canvas and painted thousands of items - bicycles, scooters, furniture, clothing, mannequins, cars, camper vans, sinks, musical instruments, telephones, and even toilet seats - with a pop art design style à la Roy Lichtenstein, but with a flair and humor decidedly his own.  A true Key West character, he embodied the spirit of the island, and his creations are celebrated and collected by many.

" That's Outrageous!" runs through Sunday, June 24 and is sponsored in part by the Captain Outrageous Foundation. For more information, call Curator Cori Convertito, Ph.D., at 305.295.6616 x 112 or visit  kwahs.org.   Your Museums.  Your Community.  It Takes an Island.

The heritage of our underwater world:Key West Art & Historical Society offers Heritage Awareness Diving Seminar

Key West Art & Historical Society has partnered with the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research to offer a Heritage Awareness Diving Seminar opportunity in Key West, Thursday, June 14 - Saturday, June 16, which will include both classroom and open water diving components.

HADS was launched about a decade ago to address a lack of cultural resources information in most SCUBA training courses. The three-day course will explain the advantages of conserving historic shipwrecks and other submerged cultural resources as they preserve information about our collective past as well as the vibrant ecosystems that grow around them. While targeted to diving leadership such as agency course directors, dive instructors, and heritage professionals, the program welcomes and has proven useful for professional and recreational divers, all of whom will gain a greater knowledge of how to proactively protect shipwrecks, artificial reefs, and other underwater cultural sites as part of the marine environment.

Mayor Craig Cates recently recognized the generous role the Trophia Foundation plays in replenishing the island's green canopy by proclaiming May first as Trophia Foundation Appreciation Day.
Since Hurricane Irma ravaged the Keys, the Trophia Foundation has donated $50,000 worth of canopy trees to the community. The trees have been planted throughout the community.
The Trophia Foundation continuously and generously promotes the planting of trees and shrubs in the island city. With the help and support of the Tree Commission, the Urban Forester and Community Services, trees are being planted along city sidewalks and in city parks. The Tree Commission was established in 1971, by State legislation, in recognition that trees on public and private property are economic and aesthetic assets to the citizens of Key West.
