Plastic Bag Ban... Grace period ends
|
|
We're here, once again, to remind you about the plastic bag ban throughout the City of Pittsburgh...
All retail establishments (grocery stores, restaurants, convenience stores, big box stores, etc.) operating within the City of Pittsburgh are prohibited from providing a single-use plastic bags.
Retailers were given a grace period to draw down their existing plastic bag inventory until January 1st, 2024. This grace period has ended and retailers are expected to no longer provide plastic carryout bags to customers.

This capacity building program is the second of two opportunities for Black-led arts and cultural organizations, as well as Black artists in Allegheny and surrounding counties to participate in or benefit from the work of the Initiative.

Community Festival Grant Program
Grantees are selected by committee and based on specific criteria. All approved grant applications receive up to $1,000.00 in reimbursed funds to assist with operations of their festivals.
Applications will be accepted through 5PM on Monday, April 15.

Backing Small Business Grant Program
The Backing Small Businesses grant program supports economically vulnerable and under-resourced small businesses with community reach and/or cultural significance. This year, eligible small business owners can apply for $10,000 grants for projects that grow or improve their businesses by building community, supporting their economic viability, or bolstering meaningful change.
Applications will be accepted from March 14, 2024, through April 7, 2024, at 11:59 pm CT.

The Greenwood Smithfield project seeks to increase opportunities for Black businesses and entrepreneurs in Downtown Pittsburgh
The Greenwood Plan recently acquired the Pitt Building in Downtown. The organization announced the acquisition in January after a year of fundraising to convert the 40,000 square foot building, which extends for one block on Smithfield Street from the Boulevard of the Allies to Third Avenue, into a mix-use retail space and incubator for Black businesses, entrepreneurs and organizations.

ONE TAKES ON THE LONELINESS EPIDEMIC

ONE launches Project in East End
The U.S. Surgeon General's Report on the Epidemic of Isolation and Loneliness warns that social disconnection is a corrosive condition with grave consequences for the health of our citizens and the societal health of our communities.
The Office of Nighttime Economy has launched a project to index metrics to understand Pittsburgher's socializing activities, locations and frequency, as well as infrastructure, safety and equity barriers that inhibit citizens' ability to connect with others and socialize in person.
Launched in the East End, stay tuned for the project to expand to other City neighborhoods.
