A Look Inside This Week's Whims

April 2023, 3rd Edition

Hello, all!

Here we are on the eve of May 1st: the days are noticeably longer, fall's bulbs have grown into spring's happiest little blooms, and kids (human and goat!) are soaking up all the fresh air and sunshine late April has to offer. It is a truly wondrous time of year, both on the Riley campus and in coastal Maine. We hope you're finding time to enjoy this brief and beautiful time of year!

Tomorrow, Monday May 1st, Riley's Spring Online Auction will be kicking off at noon! We're so excited about this event and can't wait for you to see all the wonderful items to bid on. There's still time and opportunity to donate and get involved if you haven't yet. Check out all the details below, and don't forget to share this wonderful virtual auction with the wider community!

Additionally, tomorrow evening Riley's monthly Art Mom meet up will be tying The Riley School Quilt. This is an all hands on deck situation with no experience required; please join us!

Hope you've had a lovely weekend and see you in the morning!

( We do have a single active covid case on campus - so please be alert to symptoms and prepared to mask your child.)

Set aside May 20th for a full day of activities and celebrations in honor of Riley's 50th anniversary! Enjoy food trucks, music, field games, a tree planting, a book reading and release, an ice cream bar, a lemonade stand, s'mores, the auction, volley ball and croquet, playing in Fortville,

Riley family reunions, and more!

Plan to "camp out" all day

May's Women's Art Night:

Hand Tying the Riley Quilt

Monday, May 1st at 6 PM in the Art Room

Potluck snacks & BYOB!

Join us tomorrow night as we hand tie the Riley Quilt! Absolutely no experience needed: if you can tie a knot (or are willing to learn), you can help us bring this community quilt together.

Bring snacks and drinks to share with the group, and help us finish this amazing quilt in time for May's 50th Anniversary Family Reunion & Picnic!

Optional: if you've got any large eye sashiko style needles and/or scissors, bring those with you, too!

***We will be crawling around on top of the quilt as we tie so please bring slippers and/or clean feet and avoid wearing muddy spring clothes please!***

It was such a treat to have you on campus this year.

RILEY MISSION STATEMENT

The Riley School guides children to become independent, lifelong learners and innovative thinkers.

Founded as an intentionally small, progressive, ungraded elementary school in 1972, Riley recognizes each child’s unique learning style. The innovative and personalized curriculum challenges children to express themselves and develop their own intellectual and creative capabilities through discovery, questioning and active engagement.

We foster a sense of responsibility towards our natural world, our community, and each other. We value cooperation and collaboration, while balancing the individual's social, emotional and physical development with academic and intellectual growth.

At Riley we trust in children as learners. We honor and respect the uniqueness of the individual. We cherish and protect childhood.
