HAIS Workshop by High Tech High 
Concrete Tools for Unpacking Complex Problems: How to Lead for Equity and Other Challenges in a PBL Setting 
How can we use improvement science to develop robust project based learning cultures in our classrooms and schools? In this interactive workshop, participants will use the versatile tools of Improvement science - including empathy interviews, fishbone diagrams, and interrelationship digraphs - to dig into a problem of practice. Participants will leave with protocols and tools they can use with students and colleagues to help foster a learning culture and guide systematic improvement in their own context. This workshop is designed for change-makers at all levels-teachers, school/district leaders.

Call for Proposals Deadline is March 1st
 
Be a part of the  10th annual Schools of the Future Conference!  We are seeking proposals related to pedagogy and best teaching practices to help educators prepare student learners for the future. 

To submit a proposal, please complete the   2018 SOTF Submission Form . For your reference, we have also created a   Proposal Planning Template.  

The deadline to submit a proposal is March 1, 2018 and notifications will be sent by April 27, 2018.

Dr. Ruth Fletcher: PBN's Women Who Mean Business
This year is the 20th anniversary of Pacific Business News' Women Who Mean Business awards, and Dr. Ruth Fletcher of St. Andrew's Schools is among the 38 honorees for 2018. Exceptional women in business in industries ranging from tech to finance to nonprofits to tourism.  This year they  will be honored  at the anniversary gala on March 15 at The Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki. Early Childhood Educators Workshop: Feb. 17
There  will be a FREE early childhood educators workshop, entitled "Addressing the Nature of Challenging Behavior in Young Children," on  Hawai'i  Island, February 17. The workshop will consist of presentations by experts about classroom strategies, working with parents and teaching pro-social behavior, along with opportunities for conversations to support the social-emotional growth of our early learners and is appropriate for pre-school through grade 3 educators. Be sure to register for  this free workshop, by February 12.

2018 Global Issues Network Conference: Mar. 9 - 11
The 2nd annual Hawai'i Global Issues Network Conference will take place March 9 - 11 at Le Jardin Academy. GIN is an international organization that facilitates conferences around the world for students to collaborate on and engage in the issues our society is currently facing to attempt to come up with real solutions to problems on both a local and global scale. Today, GIN includes students from over 500 schools across the world.This year's theme is Ka Po'aiapuni Wai, "the water cycle," which connects all living things. The three-day conference will include student workshops, keynote speakers, breakout sessions, a film showing, networking and collaboration opportunities, and overnight camping. Billion Trees of Aloha Project: Mar. 1
The Eco-Opps website has been launched, and with it comes the opportunity to participate in their Billions Trees of Aloha project, the brain child of the World Youth Congress hosted in Hawai'i last year. I f every child and youth planted one tree in this world, we would plant and care for more than a billion trees in 2018. ASHG DNA Day Essay Contest: Mar. 9
National DNA Day commemorates the completion of the Human Genome Project in April 2003 and the discovery of the double helix of DNA in 1953. This year's DNA Day will be on  Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Teachers and students around the world can celebrate by participating in the American Society of Human Genetics' (ASHG) 13th Annual DNA Day Essay Contest.  This contest is open to students in grades 9-12, and asks students to examine, question, and reflect on important concepts in genetics.  Submissions are now open; for more details and to submit an essay, please go to their website. USDA & UH 2018 summer AgDiscovery Program: Mar. 12
USDA and UH Mānoa 2018 AgDiscovery Program will be held July 8 - July 21. This is summer program is for students ages 14-17 who are interested in agricultural science. If selected, students get to stay at UH Mānoa Campus and explore agriculture through hands-on activities throughout Oahu Island. The Program covers plant science, horticulture, entomology, wildlife sciences, veterinary sciences, traditional agriculture, dog detection, and more. 2018 Hawai'i STEM Conference: Apr. 10 - 11
The Women in Technology Project (WIT) has announced the 2018 9th Annual Hawai'i STEM Conference. They invite teachers and students to register to attend, as well as organizations to participate through sponsorship, break-out session presentations, and interactive exhibitor playg rounds. Contributing sponsors will allow over 1,000 students and teachers who are positively impacting communities to continue to be introduced to, and continue to be exposed to, innovative technologies.  The conference will be held April 10 - 11 at the Hawai'i Convention Center on Oahu. Shadow A Student Challenge: Feb. 19 - Mar. 2
From February 19th to March 2nd, school leaders across the world will clear their calendars, silence their walkie-talkies, throw on sneakers, and immerse themselves in student life for a day. This crash course in empathy will help school leaders see their own schools from a student's point of view and take action for positive change. Every student experience matters, and each shadow experience sends the message that student voice matters.

MIE Minecraft Teacher Academy Training: Mar. 2
Kamehameha Schools is hosting a free MIE (Microsoft Innovative Educator) Minecraft in Education Teacher Academy Training on Friday, March 2 from 9:00am - 4:00pm. Math Learning Difficulties Workshop: Mar. 3
Math difficulties range in severity and topic areas, and may be further complicated by co-existing difficulties in language comprehension. In this workshop held by HIDA ( Hawai'i branch of the International Dyslexia Association), classroom teachers, tutors, and homeschool parents of children (grades 3-12) will learn strategies to help remedy some common math difficulties their students encounter. Participants will receive manipulatives to take/use in helping students with math learning difficulties. The HSTE Makey Makey Invention Literacy Workshop is a hands-on learning experience where you'll learn how to teach invention literacy, making, and Design Thinking using the award winning Makey Makey. PAEMST Awards: Apr. 1
The 2017-2018 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) program seeks to recognize outstanding mathematics or science teachers at the elementary level (grades K-6) in a  public, private, or charter school.  Nominations close on  April 1, 2018, and all application materials by K-6 teachers must be submitted by May 1, 2018. Hawai'i TECC Teacher Job Fair: Apr. 28
The Hawai'i Teacher Education Coordinating Committee (TECC) Teacher Job Fair provides DOE, charter, and independent school administrators with the opportunity to meet with and/or interview teacher candidates who are seeking employment for the 2018-2019 academic year. Each school that participates will be provided with a table and chairs. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to school administrators/staff.
