FINALS WEEK NEXT WEEK!

---------------------
BASIC TIPS
- Being well prepared for the test is the best way to reduce test taking anxiety.
- Space out your studying over a few days or weeks. Break down the sections or units you need to study, and review them in chunks. Procrastinating and cramming will make you feel more anxious.
- Try to maintain a positive attitude and a growth mindset. Come up with a confident mantra. It really works!!
- Get daily exercise, and take short exercise breaks if you’re studying for hours at a time.
- Get a good night's sleep before the test. Eat breakfast (get some protein)
- Show up early so you won't have to worry about being late.
- Take a few deep breaths to relax yourself and clear your head.
- Read the directions slowly and carefully.
- Skim through the test so that you have a good idea how to pace yourself.
- Don't worry about how fast other people finish their test; just concentrate on your own test.
- If you don't know the answer to a question, skip it for the time being (come back to it later if you have time).

Here’s how you can help:
- Pick up informational flyers from the front office and help distribute to teachers or friends who are in middle or high school.
- Invite friends and relatives to our Informational Night on Sunday, January 27 at 1 p.m. or our Campus Tour on Thursday, January 31 at 9:30 a.m.
- Attend a PTA meeting at a middle school and share highlights about the Academy.
Your voice has a big impact on our community.
Each person you speak to has the opportunity to create a ripple effect in the Academy's exposure.
Thank you for being an active member in supporting and growing our school community!

CURRICULUM SPOTLIGHT: ART CLASS
Mandalas
In Art, Mr. Pickens is guiding students through a unit on mandalas. After viewing a
presentation on the history and cultural relevance of mandalas, students engaged in the process of creating their own mandala.
The drawings represent the geometric concept of rotation and radial symmetry. This means that each quarter of the design is identical to the other quarters. After choosing a specific color harmony (monochromatic, complementary, analogous, etc.), artists used colored pencil to fill in their designs with vibrant color.
Here are some examples:

NEW EXTRACURRICULAR OFFERINGS
Academy students have a wide range of extracurricular options to participate in during their high school experience. Extracurricular involvement gives students additional opportunities to practice leadership skills, as well as another place to make new friendships. All extracurricular options are supported by an adult sponsor. With enough interest, students also have the autonomy to create a new club.
If you have any questions about the offerings or have an interest in making a new club, please see
Mrs. Sanders
