A Look Inside This Week's Whims

April 2024, 3rd Edition

Hello, all!

Hope you all had a rejuvenating weekend full of sunshine and daffodils. Dare we risk it and say - SPRING IS HERE! ? May is just around the corner so surely it must be true.

Tuesday is Women's Art Night. If you've been thinking of spending an afternoon/early evening in the art room working with your hands and basking in the company of the women of Riley, JOIN US! The days are getting longer and this time of year is particularly beautiful in Riley's sunny art room towards the end of the day. No experience necessary!

A must read on our goats.. As you may know, the Riley goats have begun kidding. This new life on campus is bringing much excitement to all in the community and we are so thrilled to be embarking on this kidding season. Please keep the well-being of our livestock in mind and avoid bringing dogs to meet the goats. Additionally we ask that you check in with a facilitator (Craig if possible) before entering the enclosure. Please do not enter the animal enclosure over the weekend. Keeping the animals safe and happy is our number one priority and we thank you all for helping us do just that!

See you in the morning!

New Kids on Campus!

We are thrilled to announce that Kid Watch 2024 has arrived on the Riley campus resulting in a predicted forecast of heavy snuggling with high likelihood of experiential learning. We are anticipating that our community may have an opportunity to witness a birth or two. How exciting! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Craig Letowski, Riley's Farm and Garden teacher.

More information coming soon for an on campus Kid Hugging opportunity for Riley families!

Women's Art Night: Mending

Tuesday, April 30th, 4:30

Join us in the Art Room this coming Tuesday to mend your well worn garments! Bring your garments (or any special to you fabric items) in need of mending and we will explore how to extend the lives of our clothing. While not necessary, please feel free to bring scrap fabric to mend with, needles, thread, thimbles, and the like! Sashiko needles and thread are particularly nice to have on hand if you want to mend jeans.

Art Room opens at 4:30. Please drop in whenever it's convenient! Feel free to bring drinks/snacks to share if you're so inclined. See you Tuesday!

RILEY MISSION STATEMENT

The Riley School guides children to become independent, lifelong learners and innovative thinkers.

Founded as an intentionally small, progressive, ungraded elementary school in 1972, Riley recognizes each child’s unique learning style. The innovative and personalized curriculum challenges children to express themselves and develop their own intellectual and creative capabilities through discovery, questioning and active engagement.

We foster a sense of responsibility towards our natural world, our community, and each other. We value cooperation and collaboration, while balancing the individual's social, emotional and physical development with academic and intellectual growth.

At Riley we trust in children as learners. We honor and respect the uniqueness of the individual. We cherish and protect childhood.
