SHARE:

Winter presses on, the holidays are ancient history, and we're taking a few minutes to share some of the ins and outs of what's happening with our design and build team

A quick note at the top here: we're projecting a very busy 2023 but we still have a few open slots in our calendar. If you want to build this year please shoot an email to: samantha@timberbuilt.com and we'll do our best to get you up and going.

While our field team battles the weather in the Rockies (they're building in Evergreen, CO), our design staff and shop team are hard at work on our home turf. Updates here include our Tour Of Homes event in April, a new line of charming mini cabins, and a new home design with a spacious wrap-around porch.

Sit back, grab a hot drink, and take a short look at what's been happening at Timberbuilt.

We're thrilled to announce that our Tour of Homes is back.

This year, we'll be showcasing a selection of stunning timber frame homes in and around Ellicottville, NY. It's our first tour since 2019, as the previous three were cancelled due to the pandemic and we are looking forward to making the Tour Of Homes part of the new normal.

The tour is scheduled to take place sometime in April and will be self-guided.

You'll check in at our home base, usually in the village of Ellicottville, and receive a map of nearby homes that you can visit. Throughout the day, you'll have the chance to explore a variety of fully finished homes. Our design team, field crew members, and shop framers will be on hand at different houses to answer any questions.

It's always exciting to see the creative and inspiring choices of homeowners and builders that make these homes unique. And it's a great way to spend a day with friends and family to gather ideas for your own home.

We'll be sharing more information soon, but if you want to be sure to stay informed, simply follow the signup link, and we'll keep you updated.

MINI

CABINS

Winter weather often gives us a chance to develop projects outside of our typical scope of work. This year we've had the opportunity to design a luxury three-season garden shed.

It includes the same hand-crafted timber architecture found in our homes and benefits from an airtight SIP enclosure which makes it impervious to rodents and insect pests.

The project inspired us to revisit an idea that we've been kicking around for years: designing a series of high-efficiency timber frame outbuildings that could function in an assortment of ways.

The possibilities for a small scale cabin like this are many -- a hobby room, yoga studio, pool house, or hunting base all work.

Unlike our homes these cabins can be shipped as a DIY friendly kit and can be assembled by a small crew over a weekend. We'll provide everything necessary to assemble the timbers, panels, and weather-seal the cabin to ready for roofing and siding.

We don't have all the technicals sorted out -- like all of our stuff this thing is half romance -- but we have begun work on a few variations. By using this small project as a jumping off point we recently designed a few downsized modifications to both our Burke and Kirsch timber homes for use as fully winterized ADUs (accessory dwelling units).

We've designed outbuildings before and we are constantly working with clients on garages so this was not new to us -- it's just letting us flex our muscles in a different way. We'll bring all of this into clearer focus in the months ahead but for now you can check out some more renders on our blog.

NEW DESIGN

THE SUNSPOT

Designed to beat the heat, our Sunspot Series features shaded outdoor living space with wrap-around porches and an open floor plan inside. The two porches, on opposite sides of the home, are accessed through doorways in the kitchen and the great room.

Like all of our homes, we assemble this hybrid timber frame with energy efficient SIP wall and roof panels. Timbers and SIPs is our one-two combo to yield a comfortable, beautiful living space.

While our field team is traveling from coast to coast and our shop team is busy finishing, framing, and designing, we're heading back to school this fall with project updates, recent builds, and a brand new design.

Like everyone, we’ve spent a little more time at home these last few years.

We’re not complaining — Western New York is a great place to live. We’ve got four seasons, a bustling city on the lake, swimming in the summer, skiing in the winter, and the best franchise in sports. (Go Bills!)

We have teams pounding nails in Colorado and Montana. Our designers just sent fresh construction docs to the printer. Interns and summer helpers buzz around our shop, bustling by our woodworker aces, who are covered in sawdust, blasting music through the building, cutting, sanding, staining, and stockpiling timber frames into every corner.

Dancing around our local quarantine list has been a high-intensity, short duration exercise but we’re getting it done with stops in Washington, Montana, and Oregon.

It’s a strange new world out there. Even though the Timberbuilt office staff has been working from home for over a month we’ve stayed busy, productive, and are positioning ourselves in the starting blocks, waiting for the shot to get out and start building again.

Autumn’s here, there’s a chill in the air, and it’s time to find a nice warm spot and hunker down for the winter BUT WE ARE NOT HUNKERERS.

From the outer reaches of North America, 3,300 miles from home, with a pack of bloodthirsty Kodiak bears in pursuit --

OUR FIELD TEAM IS BACK...

Oceanfront work sites, 16 hours of sunlight a day, and the world's largest bears. What more could we ask for?

We’ve continued to rack up the frequent flyer miles with recent projects ranging from southern Colorado to South Dakota to the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Here’s a look at a few...

From the Colorado Sunbelt in San Juan National Forest to the "Crown Of The Continent" in Glacier National Park, to our own Lake Erie Basin, we spent our year working with an exceptionally diverse, amazing bunch of clients. THANKS to you all!

Lots more ahead this year.
