Don't let his young age fool you, everyone was equally fascinated with the magical box that was quickly dubbed "the home screen" upon its arrival. The late 1940s is when color television got its start in America but it wasn't really a commercially viable option for people until the early 1950s. Even black and white televisions weren't a common sight in people homes in the mid to late 40s. Only 0.5% of households in the United States had a television in 1946, but sales started to take off as the '50s neared. By 1954 that percentage jumped to 55.7% and by 1962, 90% of the population had their very own television set at home.

1965 : Brigitte Bardot Behind the Camera
Brigitte Bardot still reigns supreme as an icon of fashion. Bardot won the world over with her charms, talent, and effortless beauty. Her look was so distinct and desirable, that designer's named clothing styles after her.
The French model, actress, and singer was the original blonde bombshell. Brigitte Bardot's style, grace, and eventually her passion for animal rights heavily influenced culture as a whole. Her hair, makeup, and fashion sense has, and continues to be emulated across the world. Bardot even has a signature pose that many models have tried to reproduce in shoots over the years.
The only known photo of Marilyn Monroe and JFK taken on May 19, 1962 (after she performed her famous Happy Birthday, Mr. President song).
This particular photograph of President John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe almost never saw the light of day. It was captured just after her performance at JFK's 45th birthday at Madison Square Garden, but photos of these two together were almost always destroyed, which is why they are so hard to come by.
They were actually photographed together many times in fact, even on this very night by White House photographer Cecil Stoughton. But according to Stoughton himself, the Secret Service confiscated all of his negatives when he was in the middle of developing them. This photograph here only survived because it was in the dryer. By the time the 70's were in full swing the California skate scene was not only making its way across the country, but it was welcoming female skateboarders into the fold. Female skaters happily joined up with the infamous Z-Boys, aerial skateboarding pioneers. Once the ladies started shredding in the streets with the guys, the way women were viewed in sporting circles changed completely.
And while you'd think the novelty of it all would ensure attention, skater chicks got far less coverage in the media than their male counterparts and they weren't able to secure as much pay or sponsorships either.

Monroe was subsequently brought up for the most part by the Bolenders, who were evangelical Christians. And Monroe apparently knew from a young age that she wanted to be in showbiz. "When I was five, I think, that's when I started wanting to be an actress. I loved to play," Monroe told Life magazine in 1962. "I didn't like the world around me because it was kind of grim, but I loved to play house."
And as Monroe's childhood went on, she reportedly felt more and more unwanted. "Some of my foster families used to send me to the movies to get me out of the house, and there I'd sit all day and way into the night," she revealed to Life in 1962. "Up in front there with the screen so big - a little kid all alone."
Then, at around the age of nine, Monroe was placed into an orphanage - a place about which she would later speak harshly in interviews. For one thing, the star claimed, she had had to wash hundreds of dishes, knives and forks every day while being paid almost nothing for her work. Other sources have disputed these allegations, however.

The last notes of 'Rock and Royalty' are being strummed...but not without one very loud cymbal crash as the finale nears.
That's because there's still The Royal Coronation Ball, presented at the Lofton 'Coffee' Butler Amphitheater at Truman Waterfront Park, on Friday, October 18th.
The not-to-miss party, with the Gulf as the soundtrack and a Friday night sky going South Florida violet as the backdrop, will determine who will become 2019's reigning Royalty, beginning at 6:00 PM.
Karen Frank-Noll, Kevin 'Woody' Wood, Valerie Edgington and Ryan Acker have worked tirelessly as goodwill ambassadors for A.H. of Monroe County, Inc. (AH) for 8 weeks of frenzied, frisky, feisty and always fabulous fundraising events Keys-wide, assisted by a corps of volunteers, to raise the most money and ascend to the throne.
Special events have ranged from a weekly 'Aqua Idol' competition to upstairs Sunday BINGO at the 801 Bourbon Bar...a 4th Royal Retrospective of the history of Fantasy Fest Royalty at The Custom House...'Real Women Do Drag', during Womenfest...to The 7th Annual Red Shirt Run.
In-between and throughout, there were bunches of brunches and oodles of orchids, a 'Scream party and Jello wrestling. They baked, gonged, drained kegs, had a hoedown, wined and designed, donned tutus and did Saturday afternoon jailtime.
And yet the finale promises more strategic moves.
"We never know quite what to expect when our 4 Candidates take the stage," noted AH Executive Director Scott Pridgen. "They may somehow reprise their Kick-Off production number, stage something brand-new, or simply address the audience from the heart about why they're raising money or AH."
The 2019 Royal Coronation Ball will be hosted, like last year, by Bria; she and Erin McKenna are produced under the supervision of Nadene Grossman Orr/We've Got The Keys.
General admission to The 2019 Royal Coronation Ball is a suggested donation of $10 and includes two votes for the candidate(s) of your choice. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or a blanket for lawn seating.

Pictured here is a fresh-faced Diana before she had the title of "Princess" or became the mother of royal heirs Princes William and Harry. Here she is in 1975, the girl who became one of the most famous and beloved women in the world before her untimely death in 1997.
Diana secured her place in the hearts of many and will always be known as the "People's Princess."
What started like a Disney fairy tale, with nearly a billion television viewers across the world watching Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, marry an English school teacher, the Lady Diana Spencer, ended up taking a more Brother's Grimm turn in the end.

Robin Williams won many awards over the span of his brilliant career, but it's probably safe to say nothing will ever feel quite as good for any actor as that very first win. His face says it all in this picture here, taken at the 1979 Golden Globes. Williams had just won the Golden Globe for lead comedy actor for "Mork and Mindy."
This legendary role launched his entire career and propelled him towards his future greatness.
Right from the start, Williams was primarily known for his comedic bits and his demeanor was said to be usually quite in sync with his on-stage persona. But it seems Williams had long suffered from depression and eventually dementia which resulted in his death by suicide in 2014.

Pictured here is the beautiful and talented Susanna Lee Hoffs, vocalist, guitarist and co-founder of The Bangles. The Bangles released their first full album titled All Over the Place in 1984 and they saw moderate success. It wasn't until 1986 with the release of album Different Light that they reached new heights. It included the hit singles "Manic Monday", "If She Knew What She Wants", and "Walk Like an Egyptian".
Hoffs also co-wrote "I Need a Disguise" for The Go-Gos Belinda Carlisle. Before she knew it, Hoffs was appearing all over magazine covers, acting, writing, and was perfectly positioned to launch a solo career by the time The Bangles disbanded in 1988

But regardless of whether Monroe was actually exploited at the orphanage, she certainly didn't enjoy life there. And, finally, a friend of her mother's named Grace McKee Goddard removed her from the institution and took her in. Unfortunately, though, Monroe may have also suffered sexual abuse at this new home - allegedly at the hands of Grace's husband, Doc.
And while Monroe tried finding alternative places to live, she eventually ended up back at the Goddard home. Then in 1942 the Goddards had to move state along with Doc's company. Monroe couldn't go with the couple, however, leaving her confronted with the prospect of being sent back to the orphanage.
Yet there was actually an answer to this problem: Monroe could get married. And a suitor duly came along in the form of a 21-year-old neighbor of the Goddards' named James "Jim" Dougherty. The pair had already gone out on several dates, and Dougherty seemingly had no objections to wedding a beautiful girl like Monroe.
Three weeks after Monroe's 16th birthday, she and Jim married. And her gown for the occasion - a gift from one of her foster parents - was fairly simple. Made of white lace and with lengthy sleeves, it was a far cry from the bold fashion statements that Monroe would later make at her next two weddings.
When Monroe filed for divorce from DiMaggio, it was reportedly on the grounds of "mental cruelty." Yet it's said that the sporting legend remained preoccupied with his ex even after their split. And despite all that had supposedly occurred throughout the course of their tumultuous relationship, the actress ended up more or less going back to him.

But why would Monroe have returned to a man who is said to have treated her badly? Well, many biographers have pointed out that, sadly, much of Monroe's short life featured abuse in some form or another. Even back when she was the beautiful but ordinary Norma Jeane Baker, she had experienced awful things in her early childhood.

The play was based on the best-selling book by Cheryl Strayed of "Wild" fame (a book and movie starring Reese Witherspoon) and was originally directed by Thomas Kail, the director of Hamilton. Tiny Beautiful Things is a luminous play about reaching when you're stuck, healing when you're broken and finding the courage and humor to take on the questions which sometimes have no answers.

The College of the Florida Keys (
CFK) invites prospective students and their families to its Fall Open House Saturday, October 19 at its Key West Campus, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Future students will meet faculty, staff, and current students and learn about bachelors' and associate degrees as well as career training programs. The College will also share information about financial aid and scholarship opportunities, learning support resources, and student clubs and activities.
The event will feature a campus tour with stops along the way that exhibit each College program. Tour highlights will include the Aquaculture Lab, Dive Training Lagoon, Culinary Arts Lab, Nursing Patient Simulation Lab, Marine Engineering Lab, and Lagoon Landing Residence Hall. Family members will participate in a "President to Parent" talk with CFK President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra about guiding and supporting soon-to-be college students. The Open House activities will conclude with a Caribbean lunch, prepared by the College's Campus Cafe.

Bahama Village Music Program kicks of 20th season with 7th Annual
Sugarloaf Oktoberfest celebration.
7th. Annual Sugarloaf Oktoberfest celebration is set for Sunday, October 6
at the Sugarloaf Lodge Tiki Bar from 3pm-7pm, promising a tasty, musical afternoon for all who attend. The annual fundraiser benefits the Bahama Village Music Program, an organization that helps bring free musical education to over 200 students aged 6-16 that would otherwise miss out on the lifelong gift of music.
"It's a good time for a good cause!" says Executive Director Katchen Duncan, who has been with the program since 2002.
Guests can anticipate a delicious pork dinner by South of the Seven, the new restaurant at the Sugarloaf Lodge, a silent auction and live music by musicians Larry Baeder, Ben Harrison, Bill Blue, and many of the program's talented students.
Now celebrating their 20
th
season, Bahama Village Music Program has served the community through music, with two choirs, two strings programs, a jazz ensemble, a ukulele orchestra, a steel pan band, a musical theatre program, music theory and songwriting classes, the "School of Rock" band, and a summer music camp. Led by Duncan and Program Director Kate Divoll, these classes and individual lessons are taught by more than a dozen student teachers, professional instructors, and dedicated volunteers, helping to create a sense of community spirit and pride while fostering important mentor relationships between local teenage musicians and their students, encouraging parent participation, and enhancing student self-esteem. The program is fully supported by local donors, foundations, and fundraisers.

Here she is back in the 1970s, Miss World America Lynda Carter who scored the role of a lifetime as Wonder Woman.
From 1975 to 1979 Carter was the first mainstream female superhero and quickly became a household name. She rocked her own sex appeal with her character's strength and
shot all the way to pop icon status.
Even after her Wonder Woman days were over, she hardly retired her superhero cape. Lynda continued her battle for justice off-screen as an advocate for LGBT rights and eventually, she also joined efforts in finding the cure for cancer. Today she's still the same strong, beautiful, actress and philanthropist that she was back in the groovy era.

The Hollywood centenarian is a director, actor, producer and author. Born in 1916, Douglas has had an active role in film and television since the early 1940s. With his established production company, he has produced many films and has received many awards and nominations for them.
Douglas married twice, he and his first wife Diana Dill, had two sons together: actor Michael Douglas and producer Joel Douglas. He and his second wife, producer Anne Buydens, also had two sons together. Strangely enough another actor, Eric Douglas and another producer, Peter Douglas. Sadly, Eric died from an accidental overdose on prescription drugs and alcohol July 6, 2004.

Prado is a Rockefeller Media Fellow, a Creative Capital Artist and has received support for her work from The MacArthur Foundation, Ford Foundation, Fledgling Fund and others. Get Ready for Halloween and Zombie Bike Ride with Creative Workshops at Fort East Martello Museum
Kids aged 5-17 looking to explore Halloween gore with some theatrical make-up tips can enjoy a special workshop at Fort East Martello Museum presented by Key West Art & Historical Society from 9:00am-4:00pm on Monday, October 14.
Wannabe zombies will learn the tricks of using latex and household products to transform the living into the undead during a hands-on "Scars and Scabs, Wounds and Gore" workshop. Artist and teacher Crystal Smith, who has honed her skills working with the Sci-Fi Channel's "Skin Wars" and "Face Off" crews, will offer step-by-step instructions on everything participants need to know about how to make life-like wounds, scabs, and scars, with small kits included to take home. The cost for "Scars and Scabs, Wounds and Gore" is $40 for Society members and $45 for non-members and includes all supplies.

Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg has named Mary Canalejo as Civilian Employee of the First Half for 2019 during an awards ceremony Monday at the Grand Key Resort.
Canalejo has worked for the City of Key West for 51 years. During that time, she has held numerous positions; currently she is the Administrative Assistant to Administrative Capt. Randy Smith.
Capt. Smith called Canalejo "the backbone of the police department," he said.
"If there is any information needed, Mrs. Mary has it. If there is any task no one has heard of, and has no idea how to do, Mrs. Mary has done it and can teach you. Personally," he said, "I believe her most impressive talent is as a mind reader. I will often, out of left field, ask for the most obscure thing from seven or eight years ago. Mrs. Mary, without hesitation, will reach into a file folder on her desk and hand it to me with a smile; as if she has been waiting all day for me to ask for it."
Canalejo is a dedicated and hard worker and a loyal employee. The honor was bestowed in recognition of her outstanding service.

Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg has named Officer Edward Cuneo Officer of the First Half for 2019.
Though Officer Cuneo has only been an officer since October of 2018, he has been part of the department for much longer, said Chief Brandenburg.
"His path to being a certified officer with the Key West Police Department started many years ago as a Police Explorer in high school," Chief Brandenburg said during an awards ceremony Monday at the Grand Key Resort. "His journey has taken him to many faraway places before returning him to his island home."
Officer Cuneo also received a Chief's Commendation for his quick and selfless response when a sightseeing helicopter recently crashed just offshore in Key West. He was the first on the scene. He radioed in pertinent information, removed his duty belt, and entered the water.
"Officer Cuneo worked through personal injury to ensure that all the occupants of the helicopter were safely moved to shore where medics were standing by to treat the injured," said Chief Brandenburg. "Officer Cuneo's efforts exemplify our core values of Respect, Integrity, Fairness, and Service."

Today's home fires burn faster than ever. In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Knowing how to use that time wisely takes planning and practice.
The Key West Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) -- the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years -- to promote this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, "Not Every Hero Wears a Cape, Plan and Practice Your Escape!" which works to educate the public about basic but essential ways to quickly and safely escape a home fire.
At this week's City Commission meeting, Mayor Teri Johnston and the City Commission proclaimed October 6
th through the 12
th as Fire Prevention Week.
The Key West Fire Department considers all of the month of October as Fire Prevention Month, and is hosting a series of events in support of this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, including annual visits of fire personnel and apparatus to schools for life safety education, as well as visits to the fire stations by day care facilities. The Key West Fire Department will also be offering free smoke alarms for homes that do not currently have alarms.
NFPA statistics show that the number of U.S. home fires has been steadily declining over the past few decades. However, the fire death rate per 1000 home fires reported to U.S. fire departments being 4 percent higher in 2017 than in 1980.
Fire Marshal Danny Blanco notes that, although people feel safest in their home, it is also the place people are at greatest risk to fire, with four out of five U.S. fire deaths occurring at home. That over-confidence contributes to a complacency toward home escape planning and practice.
"Working in the fire service for many years, we know that people often make choices in fire situations that jeopardize their safety or even cost them their lives," said Blanco. "We need to do a better job of teaching people about the potentially life-saving difference escape planning and practice can make and motivating them to action."
While NFPA and the Key West Fire Department are focusing on home fires, these fire safety messages apply to virtually anywhere.
"Situational awareness is a skill people need to use wherever they go," said Blanco. "No matter where you are, look for available exits. If the alarm system sounds, take it seriously and exit the building immediately."

"Old Town Parking"
Beginning October 1
st, Key West residents can purchase their new annual residential parking permit for Old Town. The new multi-colored stickers will help ensure marked residential parking spaces are reserved for residents.
The permits cost $20 a year. They are available at the Monroe County Tax Assessor's office at the Harvey Government Center. Applicants will need to show proof of residency in Key West as well as a driver's license and vehicle registration in order to obtain the residential parking permit.
In addition to ensuring that residents can park in the marked residential spaces, the permit parking for up to four hours, one time per day, without paying in any one of the five parking lots:
Fire Station #2 in the 600 block of Simonton,
Key West Bight main lot in the 800 block of Caroline,

In order to use the permit in these areas, you must enter the permit number into the pay to park machine and display the receipt on your dash.
Old Town has over 1000 parking spaces marked as residential. Eligible vehicles will have exclusive rights to these spaces. The permits are available to residents, real estate property owners, military personnel stationed in Key West, seasonal residents who reside within the city for over four months of the year, and business vehicles affiliated with a business licensed in the city.
The parking permit does not in any way affect the 750 unmarked spaces or the 60 handicapped parking spaces in Old Town. Downtown workers who are not eligible for the permits are encouraged to explore the special monthly permit at the Park N Ride on Grinnell Street.

The College of the Florida Keys invites the community to "Poetics" event with Georgia's poet laureate Chelsea Rathburn
The College of the Florida Keys will welcome poet Chelsea Rathburn (pictured) to campus for a free poetry reading event on October 9 at 6 p.m. in the Tennessee Williams Theatre.
The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) invites the community to the second poetry reading event in its new visiting poets series, CFK Poetics. The College will host Chelsea Rathburn, the poet laureate of Georgia, on October 9 at 6 p.m. in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Rathburn is the author of three books of poetry, including the New York Times New & Noteworthy collection Still Life with Mother and Knife, published in 2019 by Louisiana State University Press. Her poems and essays have appeared in Poetry, Ploughshares, the Atlantic, Creative Nonfiction, and many other journals. A fifth-generation native of Miami, she currently lives in Macon, Georgia, with her husband, the poet James Davis May, and their daughter. She is an assistant professor of English and creative writing at Mercer University.

Poetics is made possible through the support of the Florida Humanities Council. The goal of this series is to connect the Florida Keys community and CFK students with poets whose work illustrates the critical intersections and changing landscapes and examines the social, psychological, and environmental changes that working-class residents in a tourist destination can identify with and by which they can be inspired.
Funding for this program was provided through a grant from the Florida Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Key West Farmers Market at Truman Waterfront 10a-2pm
On July 16 the Key West City Council approved a weekly Farmers Market at Truman Waterfront. The decision came after new organizers came forward to fill the void left by the abrupt departure of the Green Market at Bayview Park. Jill Snodgrass and Sean Krikorian, owners of the event firm Daily Plan-it, already organize the popular seasonal Key West Artisan Market at Higgs Beach so it was a natural fit. "We feature many of the same vendors who came to us expressing a need and desire to continue serving the people of Key West," Krikorian explained. "Many of them participate in a market almost every day somewhere in the keys, so missing an option on Thursdays left a void for them as well as the patrons." The Truman Waterfront Advisory Board reached
out to encourage selection of that recently renovated area as the new location and both vendors and organizers agreed it is a perfect choice.
The new event will began August 1 and continue every Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm. The show will feature produce sold by the Homestead farmer who grows it, Rosie, the famous cheese lady, orchids and native plants, pickles, honey, handcrafted items and other specialties. Organizers are applying to make the show EBT/SNAP friendly so affordable fresh food will be available to more people. Working locals are urged to take advantage of the many prepared items and stop at the market during their lunch break to enjoy a seaside picnic while they shop. Parking is plentiful and free with a resident parking permit. Visitors are encouraged to use the free pink Duval Loop Bus which stops close by. The new splash park and tours of the Ingham are also available in the park.
"When the Green Market closed many locals were very vocal about wanting a farmers market option in their backyard." Krikorian said, "We hope everyone shows up to support this and helps make sure its sustainable."

The White Rabbit's Wonderland: A Burlesque Parody
Take a trip down the rabbit hole into a world of wonder and whimsy! "The White Rabbit's Wonderland" kicks off at 8:00pm Wednesday, October 23rd at the Key West Theater, 512 Eaton St. and runs for three evening performances. Songstress extraordinary, Shelly Watson host the show as the famed white rabbit, and is supported by local comedian, Steve Crane, as the March Hare . Key West Art & Historical Society invites locals and tourists to experience a multi-platform, self-guided, and free tour program of Key West's historic sites designed to highlight the island's unique multi-cultural history and heritage through the Key West Historic Marker Tours website and phone app.
Originally designed and launched by Bruce Neff under the auspices of Key West Historic Markers Inc., the program merged with Key West Art & Historical Society in 2018 and consists of three primary elements: a map of cultural and museum attractions featuring 121 historic location markers that pay tribute to Key West's colorful past, phone apps that act as a personal museum docent to support those taking the self-led walking tours, and a comprehensive website at

Key West Art & Historical Society's Parent and Me Fort Adventures happen at Fort East Martello Tuesdays and Thursdays through May
Registration is open for this season's Parent and Me Fort Adventure classes at Fort East Martello, 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd., offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00am - 11:30am by Key West Art & Historical Society. Led by educator Linda Stolze, the toddler-centric education program celebrates hands-on, inquiry-based learning while inviting children and parents to explore the Fort and its artifacts, dioramas, and immersive exhibits.
Each week, this fun and educational class focuses on specific themes that include art, science, math, and building. Following a playful group circle time that promotes creativity, sensory exploration and problem solving, Ms. Linda will fill the morning with engaging activities. Stolz received her BS from Murray State University in Kentucky with a degree in PR and Equine Science, was certified for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) at UCLA, and then received her teaching credentials in Special Education, K-12 from California State University at Northridge.
Children will also be able to enjoy the Imagination Playground, water play, and story time in the spectacular setting of the Martello tower.
Classes are free for Key West Art & Historical Society members; suggested donation for non-members.

Key West Art & Historical Society Call for Collections of Curios, Artworks, Baubles and Tchotchkes
Do you collect interesting and unusual objects? Is your home filled with knickknacks, curios, ornaments, trinkets, baubles, collectibles, artwork, and other objects of interest? Your unique treasures could be part of the upcoming "Key West Collects: Our Community Treasures" exhibit, one of Key West Art & Historical Society's popular returning exhibits, slated for the Custom House Museum from November 22, 2019 through January 5, 2020.
Keys residents who would like to have their own unusual or impressive collections considered for the exhibit should contact KWAHS Curator Cori Convertito, Ph.D. at 305-295-6616 x112 or send a description with photographs via email to [email protected]. The last "Key West Collects" exhibit, held in 2017, included objects such as exotic opium pipes, vintage dolls, World War I sheet music, scrimshaw from the 19th century, pre-Columbian artifacts, embroidered linens and other cherished objects collected by our local community.
"Florida Keys residents are fascinated in so many facets of culture, history and the arts," says Society curator Cori Convertito. "Displaying a small representation of their interests allows the museum to generate conversation amongst its visitors."

Key West Art & Historical Society Announces Live Music at Martello Concert Starring Perpetual Groove and opening act The Happy Dog
Tickets are now on sale for an evening of live music starring legendary "jam band" Perpetual Groove with opening act The Happy Dog, presented by Key West Art & Historical Society via its popular Music at Martello series. Set for December 12, 2019 on the grounds of historic Fort East Martello, 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd., doors will open at 6:00pm with The Happy Dog band starting at 7:00 followed by headliners PGroove.
Perpetual Groove, known for a sound that fuses Southern rock, funk, jazzy improvisation, indie rock and synth loops, and whose hits include "Save for One," "Mr. Transistor," "Three Weeks," "Teakwood," and "Walking in Place," will be performing from their classic play list along with material from their newly released self-titled album.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for a "backyard casual" setup that will include food vendors and cash bar.

Sail into historic exploration with Key West Art & Historical Society and archaeologist Corey Malcom, Ph.D., aboard luxury sailing catamaran Argo Navis
On Tuesday, October 29, noted archaeologist and Mel Fisher Maritime Museum curator Corey Malcom, Ph.D., will lead a historically illuminating morning seafaring excursion presented by Key West Art & Historical Society aboard the 75ft long, 35ft beam luxury catamaran SV Argo Navis, departing from the dock at 201 William Street at 10:00a.m. and returning at noon.
Passengers can make their own Bloody Marys, enjoy mimosas or non-alcoholic beverages, fresh fruit, delicious breakfast pastries and salt spray as Dr. Malcom, who is Director of Archaeology for the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum and President of the Key West Maritime Historical Society, shares the back-story and personal insights on the day's topic, "The History of the Key West Bight," exploring the rich history of the water, the shorefronts, and the islands along the western end of Key West.
Sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs, tickets are $45.00 for KWAHS members and $55.00 for non-members. Space is limited to 50 passengers, so early registration is recommended.
