San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow will broadcast 22 of the team's road games this season, but he won't be in the ballpark where the game is taking place. Krukow, who is battling inclusion-body myositis, a muscle disease, announced Friday that he agreed to a two-year extension with the Giants that will give him an opportunity to stay involved on a portion of the team's road schedule by providing color commentary from the NBC Sports Bay Area studio.
"
It's exciting because it's never been done before," Krukow said. "It's the one thing that's an added flavor to it."

"
I have GIANT news . . . I'm back!" Such was the Twitter post by outfielder Hunter Pence after signing a one-year / $3M deal with the San Francisco Giants last Friday. The 36-year-old Pence (seen above in 2015), a seven-year veteran of the Giants, including the 2012 and 2014 World Series champion teams, returns to San Francisco's outfield after having batted .297 with 18 home runs, 17 doubles and 59 RBIs over 83 games in 2019 as a member of the Texas Rangers. In other offseason moves, the Giants recently signed former Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores to a two-year / $6M contract. Free agent Atlanta Braves centerfielder Billy Hamilton and Philadelphia Phillies right-handed relief pitcher Nick Vincent have also been signed to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This is the time you see the New Year's Resolution Runners all over the place.
The good news is that many have decided trying to get into and staying in shape is more important than binge watching the latest mind-numbing TV series or sampling the new mega-sized offering from their favorite Fast Food factory.
There is one major problem. Most people have never been taught to run properly. From our toddling days we just took off without proper training. Like snowflakes and DNA, no two running styles are alike. If you want to look good without pulling muscles try watching:
The Perfect Form | Runner's World https://www.runnersworld.com ' training ' perfect-running-form
I am not a running snob. Observing some of the running styles from the sidewalks of suburbia and beyond led me to create an easy reference guide to help categorize what you see everyday, running this way and that.
Stretchers
They are easily spied pushing and pulling their musculature at the beginning, middle or end of their runs. Their posing on a pole is worth waiting for at a light. In many instances, when their stretch is over, they jog to the closest caffeine cafe to loosen up with a latte and chocolate croissant.
Multi-Tasking Trotters
They may be running their mouths more than their legs in an animated phone conversation, telling their buds how fit they are becoming without paying much attention to that low hanging branch, uneven curb or parking meter..... Ouch! Have you seen my wireless earbuds? Can you call 911?
Tool-Belters
"
I'm runnin here, I'm runnin here!" Pay no attention to my fully-filled runners tool belt. Phone, check. Second phone, check. Water bottle, check. Portable GPS, check. Backpack, check. These beasts of burden are weight lifting and running, the perfect combo.
Gotta Be The Shoes
The most expensive pair of running shoes these days are in the $250 dollar category. In the land of disposable income you can't be working on your proper pace without a pair of fresh, out of the box Nikes, Asics, Sauconys, Adidas, On Clouds or New Balances. Even better if you have upgraded to Adrenaline, Ultra Boost or Vapor Max.
Compressionistas
These sprinting stylists have every part of their running body parts covered in some sort of compression item, arm sleeves, leggings, shirts and shorts. From head to toe they are cooler than school.
Windmill/Washing Machiners
Windmillers are maximizing their arm strength and swatting bugs as they whip their appendages in a 360 circle, hoping to take flight.
Trotting Gangs
The Sharks and Jets of West Side Story have nothing on the posses who take to the streets to get in their exercise. They own the sidewalks so watch your step or there could be a rumble.
Bobbleheads
This group is extremely lucky that their head bouncing seems to have no negative effects on their spinal column. They clearly have a spring in their step which is connected to their cranium bouncing along up and down, side to side.
The Dog Show Trot
All you have to do is watch "Best in Show" for a few moments of hilarity on those who do the "Bowser Bounce" while showing their pooches for ribbons. You'll easily be able to spot them running around town even without their woofers. Pay attention to their baggies.
Roller Strollers
There is no better way to bond with the babies than pushing your heart rate up while navigating that Bugaboo running-stroller with you at the controls. Twins, even better.
Miscellaneous Movers
Shufflers, Heel & Toers, Silly Walkers, Backwards Runners, Barefrooters, Footshoers, Handweighters. No matter what your style, keep on putting one foot in front of another for as long as you can.

Earthquakes open 2020 Preseason with Friendly against Columbus
CANCÚN, Mexico - The San Jose Earthquakes opened their 2020 preseason with a 4-1 defeat to Columbus Crew SC in Cancún, Mexico. The two teams played four 30-minute periods and several players made their Earthquakes debut, including Mexican center back Oswaldo AlanÃs.
San Jose took the lead in the seventh minute when second-round SuperDraft selection Jack Skahan buried his long-range shot past Columbus keeper Eloy Room. Columbus responded with two goals before halftime.
San Jose had the majority of chances in the second half, including a penalty kick and a shot that caromed off the crossbar, but were unable to convert their opportunities into goals. Crew SC scored in the opening and closing minutes of the second half.
The Earthquakes will remain in Cancún for another week before playing one more friendly on Monday, Feb. 10 and flying home that evening.

Historic Trans Am Series added to Toyota/Save Mart 350 Weekend in Sonoma
SONOMA, Calif. -- Modern racing technology meets historic horsepower, as the Historic Trans Am Series joins the on-track lineup for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series event at Sonoma Raceway, June 12-14.
A 24-car field of Historic Trans Am muscle cars, including Mustangs, Camaros, Javelins, Firebirds and Cougars will hit the track on Friday and Saturday. These are real Trans Am race cars -- not reproductions -- racing and competing 50 years after the series' heyday
in the late 1960s and early '70s.
The cars, including a 1968 Sunoco Camaro originally driven by Mark Donohue and 1970 Dodge Challenger driven by Sam Posey, have been restored to their original condition and are raced hard by drivers dedicated to honoring the history of this iconic series. Fans can get an up-close look at these machines on Friday and Saturday, including a Grid Walk
on Saturday morning at 8:20 a.m.
This marks the first time the Historic Trans Am Series will join the NASCAR weekend in Sonoma.

Sports Prep Star -- Gabby Rones
West Campus-Sacramento - Basketball - Senior
Gabby Rones, the Warriors' three-year starter, is firing on all cylinders for her senior season. Through Feb. 1, she'd helped lead West Campus to a 16-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Greater Sacramento League. Rones leads the Warriors in scoring (17.5 ppg) and 3-pointers made (88). She's not just a shooter though, as demonstrated by an 18-point, 6-rebound, 3-assist and 5-steal performance in a Feb. 1 loss to NorCal-ranked Antelope. She had five steals or more in six out of seven games from Jan. 15 to Feb. 1, twice topping out at nine.
