SVCC Grad Shanetta Beck Has a Cool Job

Shanetta Beck has a cool job doing what she loves to do.  Beck is owner of her own business, Baskets by Occasion.  She started this as a cottage industry on a part-time basis and now has transformed her hobby into a prosperous career.
  
SVCC Welding Lab Opens in Greensville County
The Southside Virginia Community College Welding Lab, located at the Southside Virginia Education Center in Greensville County, was officially opened March 14, 2017 with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony and open house.

Women's Softball
The SVCC Panther Softball Team members are shown at Longwood University during a tournament. SVCC grabbed a win over Mary Washington Club, 13-2 and lost to Longwood Club 10 - 2 on Saturday, March 25.

Men's Basketball

A THREE-PEAT - Anthony Harris, pictured, and the Southside Virginia Community College basketball team overcame a 0-7 start to the season to finish the campaign with 11 straight wins including five in the USA National Prep tournament to capture the Postgrad national title for the third consecutive year in North Myrtle Beach, SC on March 2-4. It was a big tournament for Harris, who became the school's all-time leading scorer, and his teammates as they won five hard fought games including a 70-56 win over Forest Trails Academy in the championship game. 
Spring Break Mission Trip to Honduras
During t he college Spring Break, March 4-12, Tonia Talbott, counselor at SVCC, and Martha Reed, biology faculty, led a 14 member team to Honduras on a Mountain Medical Mission Trip.  During their week in Honduras, the team set up medical clinics in five communities in the rural mountainous regions of Honduras. 
Each local woman who came to the clinic with her family was given a handmade dishcloth, stitched by Southside Virginia volunteers, to show appreciation and a common bond from our community of women to theirs.
