John Seaborne

John Seaborne, from Emporia and a Greensville County High School graduate, earned his Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies/Human Services from Southside Virginia Community College, as well as a certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling.

After graduating from SVCC, he was introduced to Turning Point Youth and Family Services in Lawrenceville by his mentor, Dr. Diane Edmonds, an SVCC adjunct instructor. While with Turning Point, John mentored troubled youth through in-home sessions.

John is now an Education Support Specialist for SVCC at the Southside Education Center.  He enjoys giving back to the community as Chief Operating Officer of New Mercies Ministry.  He is also a transfer student to Old Dominion University's distance learning program offered at SVCC.  Once he completes his bachelor's degree, John plans to continue his educational path by seeking a master's degree.

"My time as an SVCC student changed my life, my mindset and my priorities.  As an SVCC professional, every day is a new challenge and another opportunity to help someone transform their life." He finishes with his favorite quote from John Dewey, "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself."
