“For God has not given us the spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment” - 2 Timothy 1:7
This scripture has been a constant reminder for Bethany throughout her entire life to walk boldly and know that with God, she will never fail. Bethany Allyce Blackson is a native of Winnsboro, LA. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology.
Bethany knew from an early age that helping people was her passion. She continued her studies and attended Southern University Law Center. Upon completing law school in 2014, Bethany became an Assistant District Attorney for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office in Lake Charles, LA.
Here, she worked in the juvenile division and managed all Child in Need of Care proceedings representing children in child abuse cases. After two years with the Calcasieu Parish DAs office, Bethany moved back to Baton Rouge and began working for the Louisiana House of Representatives as a staff attorney for the Health and Welfare committee.
Bethany currently works for the Louisiana Department of Health as their Legislative Liaison for their Legislative and Governmental Affairs Division. Bethany is an active member of the community. Virtual Learning Parental Tip/Strategy
Parents, this virtual learning space has been difficult for so many. As educators, we know you are not teachers and we do not want to put that pressure on you.
The biggest way we can support each other and our students is to ensure they attend class every day. If you are not home with them when class is set to start, call or FaceTime them to ensure they are up, engaged, dressed properly, and ready to learn.
Although this seems like a simple task, it is extremely important as we continue to operate in this virtual learning environment. This will help ensure students are completing their work, learning what is required of them for each course, and being prepared for any standardized or class-specific tests.

Virtual Teaching Tips/Strategy for Educators
Teachers, even though we are not in the classrooms with all of our students, it is our responsibility to ensure we are still creating engaging classroom spaces. Lecture-style classes cannot maintain attention. It is very difficult to talk for 30-45 minutes and keep our students interested in the information we are delivering or the tasks.
Be sure to chunk information just as you would in in-person classes, giving students the opportunity to complete a task or answer questions independently or with a group. Even if you need to set a timer for yourself, make a concerted effort to talk for no more than ten minutes at a time.
We are all in this together!

According to the CDC, In the United Kingdom (UK), a new variant called B.1.1.7 has emerged with an unusually large number of mutations. This variant spreads more easily and quickly than other variants.
Currently, there is no evidence that it causes more severe illness or increased risk of death. This variant was first detected in September 2020 and is now highly prevalent in London and southeast England. It has since been detected in numerous countries around the world, including the United States and Canada.
This is no time to ease up on the precautions being taken to ward off the virus. Please continue to wash your hands, mask up, and avoid places outside our home if you can. Let’s continue to be vigilant so we can hug our families and friends again. Read More
