2024 In Review

A Time to Reflect and Plan for the Year Ahead

Greetings from East Africa!

The festive season has been in full swing here at Travulous and as we prepare to say goodbye to 2024 and welcome in the new year ahead, we would like to take a moment to reflect on a few highlights from the year gone by.

This February, we launched a selection of new tailor-made itineraries for East Africa. We specialise in creating one-of-a-kind luxury travel experiences and can modify any of these programs to match each traveller’s particular interests, trip length and budget. Every safari we organise is bespoke and personalised – focussing on exactly what you want to ensure a truly memorable travel experience.

In March, Travulous was awarded 'Leading Experts in Destination Management & Tour Operation 2024 - Rwanda' in LUXlife’s Travel and Tourism Awards, which came as a pleasant surprise.

Continuing to find ways to better service our clients, we expanded our East African footprint and officially opened our second regional office, in April, located in Kampala, Uganda.

Towards the end of September, Rwanda faced its first-ever outbreak of Marburg Virus and although this initially caused some concern for visitors travelling to Rwanda and the African Continent as a whole, the government and health officials worked swiftly to contain the virus and stop the spread by the end of October, with the outbreak being officially declared as over by the WHO in December. Rwanda remained open throughout this time, continuing to welcome travellers to its spectacular parks and attractions.

October saw us winning our second award of the year when Travulous was named 'Destination Management Company of the Year – Rwanda 2024' in the LUXURI Magazine’s 2024 Awards.

In November, we enhanced our Agent Portal to include a ‘Special Offers’ section for travel to Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. If you haven’t had a chance to visit our portal recently, we encourage you to log in and have a look as there are some excellent discounts and perks available for your customers looking to visit East Africa in 2025.

As we look forward into next year, we have been busy making arrangements to open a new office in Nairobi in preparation for launching our exciting sister-brand, Drive in to the Wild – a unique, self-driven journey of discovery and exploration. For details, Get in Touch, to learn more!

To all our wonderful travel partners, around the world, we want to extend our gratitude and thank you for your collaboration and continued support throughout the year. Kristin, Richard and the Travulous team look forward to working together for another successful and busy travel year ahead.

May 2025 bring you much joy, success, health and happiness. Happy New Year!

FAMILIARISATION TRIPS

There is no doubt Mountain Gorillas and the Big Five will be the big highlights of our safaris in 2025, so why not experience these for yourself? We will be offering Familiarisation Trips for the Travel Trade to visit Rwanda and Uganda:

Rwanda FAM

The Volcanoes National Park segment of this trip will be guided by Ian Redmond. Ian worked with Dian Fossey at the original Karisoke Research Center in the 1970s, introduced Sir David Attenborough to the mountain gorillas, and taught Sigourney Weaver to grunt like a gorilla for her award-winning role in 'Gorillas in the Mist'.

Site inspections will include luxury properties in Kigali, Akagera NP and Volcanoes NP (including The Retreat, Magashi, Kwitonda Lodge, Bisate, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge and Gorilla's Nest).

Uganda FAM

The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park segment of our two trips will be guided by Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka. In the legacy of the late Dian Fossey, Gladys has become one of the leading conservationists and scientists working to save mountain gorillas. Gladys is the founder and CEO of Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH).

Site inspections will include luxury properties in Entebbe, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, and Queen Elizabeth National Park.
