Staffing

We are hearing from individuals that staffing "conversations" have finally begun.

In the power vacuum between union leaders moving out--I'm way behind on my emails, leaving town, and done when I get back-- and new ones moving in--but being allowed to even a second before July 7...
And the chaos of the end of the school year,
After the students have left, deployments have begun.

Instead of using the new contract language to create flexible, common sense decisions that support whole Children and Whole Educators, we are learning that this is an opportunity to create even more work and stress for at least some of our educators and students.

If this is happening to you, please contact Jessica Upton at WEA.

She is currently in contact with HR and is collecting information about the situation.

Please also let us know so that we can get a picture of how widespread/inequitable/unreasonable issues are so that we can work toward solutions.

  • Teachers at .6 schools, but who have 1.0 contracts, were told they would be moving to a 1.0 school. Go or resign part of your contract.

  • One educator was given 10 minutes to decide where they wanted to go from the list of open schools.

  • One school has been staffed at .65, perhaps to avoid the new contract language?

This is happening after students/staff have left with no goodbyes and classrooms have been prepared for summer. Plans for next year, having to start over...

We are hopeful that these are isolated incidents, that the issues can be resolved to benefit everyone, and that those in charge can find ways to support all educators and students.
