The Library is honored to have the amazing work of Rusty Harden Studio live in the building. Rusty created an incredible experience for patrons to witness. An original art piece depicting the falls at the Miami County Park District's Charleston Falls Preserve beautifies the double doors leading to the downstairs meeting room. We promise that all of Tipp City will be able to see it very soon when we tentatively open our doors on March 1st. This project was part of the Alice Lee Lund funding for our large Meeting Room renovations.

Virtual Book Club
Catch up with our library's Virtual Book Club this week on our Facebook page. This week, we focus on Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear.

Maisie Dobbs is a private investigator who was taken under the wing of suffragette Lady Rowan Compton. Maisie then caught the eye of Maurice Blanche who recognized Maisie’s intuitive gifts and helped her get into a prestigious college where Maisie planned to finish her education. When WWI broke out, Maisie’s plans changed. She served on the front lines in France and, 10 years later, became a
private investigator. Maisie soon gets involved in a case on a working farm called the retreat, and when fate brings her back for a second case, Maisie must confront what has been haunting her for over a decade.

You can find Maisie Dobbs for download on one of our free online streaming services like Hoopla or Libby.

Tired of Reading Your Child's Favorite Book Over and Over?
Does your child ask for the same books to be read over and over and over? It may have been a good read the first few times, but now you groan at the sound of the title. We feel your frustration, but even though it can be agonizing to read it one more time, please do!

Repetitive reading offers a variety of benefits to kids, whether you are reading the book to them or they are reading it themselves, over and over. Check out this article in the latest edition of Brightly newsletter from Penguin Random House to learn more.

Here are some other tips to making repetitive reading more fun:
  • When reading aloud, play around with using different voices for each character.
  • Change character names or other details of the story to see if your child notices.
  • If your child can read the pages, take turns reading different parts of the story.
  • Try thinking up new endings to the story with the help of your child and have them retell the story instead of reading it. Learning to tell stories is one of the early literacy skills children must master before becoming a competent reader.

Upcoming Programs for 6th-12th Grade Youth
We Need Women in Science
If you are looking for positive female role models in science to share with your daughters and granddaughters, please check out the books on this list. This is just a small sampling of the biographies, non-fiction, and fiction books we have available for readers in 3rd-9th grades.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science was held on February 11 and we wanted to share a few stats with you:
-45-55% of students at Bachelor’s and Masters programs are women, but only 33% of researchers are women
-70% of health and social care workers are women, and they are paid 11% less than their male counterparts
-Women have been a key part in the fight against the pandemic. From understanding the virus and controlling its spread, to developing diagnostic tests and vaccines.

“We need to step up our efforts to close these gender gaps in science and address the norms and stereotypes that create and preserve expectations of limited career paths for girls. The task is all the more urgent given women’s under representation in areas critical to the future of work, such as renewable energy and digital fields, with only 3 percent of female students in higher education choosing information and communication technologies.”

“We need science, and science needs women. This is not only about making a commitment to equal rights; it is also about making science more open, diverse, and efficient.”

-Joint message from Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women, and Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
