Congratulations to this week's Heroes Sara and Mindy. We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.
A Note to Sara Lunsford, Performing Arts Director:
You have made such a tremendous impact on the MCS middle school in a very short time! We are blessed and grateful that God brought you here! Can't wait to see how God continues to use you to grow our students in awesome ways!
Sara Lunsford is a fabulous addition to the MCS team! She is creative and has a heart and vision for introducing students to all aspects of theater and performance. Sara has included students in costume and set making, sound and lighting, and more, makeup and hair design, and more! She has ensured students are involved in every aspect of the production by providing these new opportunities. Sara is a hero!
Your Middle School Team
Mindy Gatchell, Kindergarten Teacher:
Mindy, You are the essence of this school. Your passion for teaching with excellence, and your commitment to giving every child a love for Christ, is an inspiration to all of us. Your joy and laughter make this such a fun place to work. Your humility and willingness to learn from your mistakes is such a great example to all of us. You are the type of teacher and leader we all aspire to be. Love, Kim W.
Mindy! Where do I begin? You have been so instrumental in my first year at MCS. You are always here to answer all my questions [even the 'dumb dumb' ones :)], give me resources, encouragement, affirmations, 'LAUGHTER', and (although I'm holding strong at keeping it away) you're inspiring my okie accent to make a come-back. You are Jesus' hands, feet, words, and actions to all of us around you. I am blessed to call you friend. I love you! Brandi
Teacher Blessing Fund
PTF has had a long tradition of honoring our full and part time faculty and aides through the PTF Teacher Blessing Fund. This is a collective monetary gift given voluntarily by MCS parents and then equally distributed.
Parents can give any amount, and it is presented to the teachers and aides by the room mom during the individual class Character Awards
in June.
Contributions to the
Blessing Fund can be given through May 30th on-line, or by cash or check. Please see the attached document for more specific information regarding The PTF Teacher Blessing Fund or simply give online at: http://marinerscs.org/mcsblessingfund.
Thanks for all your support for the MCS faculty in whatever way you choose to show your appreciation!
JoyFULLY,
The 2017-2018 PTF Board

Ed Tech Corner
In this week's MCS Ed Tech Corner, we look at how Mrs. Knight's 6th grade Science classes used digital age learning skills to demonstrate their knowledge of their recent unit on weather.
As a culminating project for their weather unit, 6th grade students created a weather forecast video Students were able to apply their knowledge of predicting the weather, weather fronts, symbols, and more to create their own forecast for a city of their choice. Students worked hard to research common weather in that city, created a script, designed their own weather map to match the forecast provided and recorded their forecast using a green screen to get the full meteorologist experience.
Students were able to conduct research, write scripts, design weather maps and record their simulated weather forecasts through the various digital age learning skills they have learned throughout the MCS 1:1 program. Mrs. Knight add's "The full experience was fun to see from start to finish as students were able to present their understanding in an engaging and creative way." The videos below highlight a couple of the groups' weather forecast videos. Enjoy!

Middle School Take Out Tuesday Shaved Ice May 15th
Deadline: TOMORROW Saturday, May 12th, at 11:45PM
Our final Takeout Tuesday of the year is taking place on Tuesday, 5/15, and the vendor is Bahama Bucks! Students bring their lunch, and we'll provide the dessert! All orders cost $6 and consist of a dessert which is half ice cream/half shave ice, with a selection of 2 flavors. For a sneak peek at the flavors, see the photo attached. All orders must be in before Saturday at 11:45 pm. Your child will thank you!
Note: The deadline to order is Saturday, May 12th, at 11:45pm.
May Share2Wear: Patriotic Day Tuesday, May 15th
Our final Share2Wear is taking place this Tuesday, 5/15! We are continuing to help the Shalimar Surf Ministry this month with our share items. On Tuesday students will "share" any one of the following items: a small bottle of sunscreen, a tube of chapstick, or a gently used beach towel. (You may share more than one of these if you'd like, but you must bring at least one of these to participate.)
The "wear" theme for the dress day...Patriotic Day! With Memorial Day coming up, we want to deck out in red, white, and blue!
In order to participate, students must have all 3 colors represented in your outfit, and very clearly be participating in the theme. We want to see red, white, and blue...everywhere!!!
Basically, students should look like the 4th of July exploded on them! All accessories that represent the theme are welcome, but remember that hats may only be worn outdoors. Blue jeans or uniform bottoms may be worn if a student does not have red, white, or blue bottoms.
Shalimar Gathering Friday, May 25th
Save the date for our last Shalimar visit of the year!! What an awesome time we've had being able to enter into the Shalimar community. MCS students have so beautifully and humbly shared the love of Jesus, experienced His love and joy through the community there, learned from, and simply have gotten to know our neighbors just 5 miles away. We've built bridges across cultures and have connected over crafts, Bible studies, games (aka street soccer), and more! It's been amazing to see God at work in everyone's hearts! To come join this last visit, fill out the
permission slip and turn it in to Miss Seaman or Miss Peña on or before Wednesday, May 23rd.
We'll meet outside the MCS front office after school on Friday to head over to Shalimar at 3:15pm. We plan to be back at MCS at 6pm. We also utilize parent drivers, so if you are available to drive, please indicate how many students you can take on the permission slip.
Hope your child is able to take part in the amazing work God is doing through the MCS/Shalimar partnership!

YWAM Host Homes Needed
Host homes are needed this summer for YWAM (Youth With A Mission) students. If you are interested, please contact Carrie Olson at [email protected]
Accommodations don't need to be fancy - floors, couches, or air mattresses are great! Hosting begins July 1 and ends July 21. 21 Project staff and participants will be kept very busy so you won't need to entertain or provide any transportation. For more information please visit www.21project.com and scroll to the very bottom of the page to find our easy host home application.
This summer YWAM is holding a missionary training school at Vanguard University called 21 Project. Participants will mostly be college students from around the country who are wanting to be trained to be campus missionaries back to their school. They are coming eager to be trained in how to live more like Jesus and to reach the lost and hurting at their university. Most staff are current full-time missionaries with YWAM. Your guests will bring amazing stories of salvations and healings as they share what God is doing in our nation and the countries of the earth. They will be sure to fill you with faith and hope for who God is!
