8th Grade Blessing
Monday, June 11
9:30AM
Mariners Christian School

April 2018

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

One of the sacred traditions of graduation week is the 8th Grade Blessing which will be held on Monday, June 11, at 9:30 a.m. at Mariners Christian School. Preceding the Blessing, the 8th Grade *Awards Ceremony will be held at 8:15 a.m. in the MCS auditorium. (*Please note that the Academic Awards Ceremony will be by invitation only. Invitations will be sent to parents of students receiving awards.)

The following is designed to give you an overview of the Blessing portion of the morning:

The 8th Grade Blessing is an opportunity for parents of graduates to speak words of affirmation over their child - acknowledging their character and excellence, encouraging them to follow God's plan during their upcoming high school years, and speaking God's promises into their future.  We ask that only parents be present and that siblings and other family members celebrate at another time. If you are unable to attend, perhaps a grandparent, aunt/uncle, or family friend who has been an important part of your child's life would be willing to step in. If both you and your representative cannot attend, your child's homeroom teacher would be honored to read your written blessing to your child on your behalf. Simply write your words down and email them to Mrs. Walker at [email protected]

The homeroom classes meet in separate rooms with parents and students sitting in two circles.  This is your time to bless your child in the presence of their peers.  It is an opportunity to give them the gift of affirmation expressing a recognition and appreciation for who they are, separate from what they do. It is also an opportunity to communicate how proud you are of who they are becoming.  You may want to read a meaningful scripture verse or other selection, pray for them, express your desires for their high school years, simply tell them how much you love them, and/or wish them Godspeed as they move on to the next chapter in their life.  We do ask that you limit your time for sharing to 2-3 minutes.

This is a wonderful way to end the school year and to send our graduates into the future God has prepared for them. Please RSVP to Robin Walker at [email protected] or 714.437.1700, extension 157, by May 14th that you (or someone else) will be attending and giving a blessing to your graduate. Thank you.

At the conclusion of the Monday (6/11) Blessing, 8th grade students may leave with their parents, have lunch, and meet at St. Andrews Church  (600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach) for graduation rehearsal at 1:00 p.m.  On Tuesday June 12, students will need to be at St. Andrews Church at 12:45 p.m.  for the "Class of 2018" photo followed by the Graduation Ceremony at 2 :00 p.m.

We pray God's richest blessing upon your family during these final months of your child's time at MCS.

Yours in Christ,
