Since 1997, the REACH Youth Scholarship Program has provided college funds to Santa Clara County High School seniors who have overcome adversity to excel in academics and sports. For the past 22 years the program has been
co-chaired by Ronnie Lott and Brandi Chastain, who hold an annual banquet to present scholarship awards to winning submissions. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 event is now a special televised event featuring pre-recorded messages from professional athletes and celebrities congratulating the 47 high school students on overcoming the odds to achieve greatness on and off the field. Super Bowl Champion James Jones was a 2002 REACH Scholarship recipient.

Major League Baseball continues its financial tug of war between billionaires and millionaires over when and if fans will hear “Play Ball.”

There are millions of fingers to be pointed by baseball fans from coast to coast at easy targets. MLB seems to be tone deaf to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the social revolution occurring on the streets of every city in the country.
When I thought about the title for this piece, somehow the world of No-Hitters popped into my mind.

I definitely have too much time on my hands these days so here is my take on No-Hitter Major League Baseball Jeopardy. It could be that every single game in the 2020 baseball season might be a no-hitter.

Earthquakes to compete in MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando

The Earthquakes, along with all 25 other clubs in Major League Soccer, will restart the 2020 season competing in the MLS is Back Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, beginning July 8. Each team will play a minimum of three Group Stage matches, all of which will count in the MLS regular season standings, seeing 16 of the 26 teams advancing to the knockout round. The tournament winner will earn a spot in the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.

USF – Joan McDermott named
Secretary of Division I-AAA ADA
CLEVELAND - University of San Francisco Director of Athletics Joan McDermott has been named the secretary of the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association for the 2020-21 academic year. The association's officers and executive committee announced McDermott's appointment on
Thursday, June 18.

Entering her second year as Athletic Director on the Hilltop, McDermott previously served on the 2019-20 DI-AAA ADA Executive Committee. Dr. Chris Reynolds, Bradley University Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, will serve as President.

"This is a tremendous organization and opportunity," said McDermott. "It's an excellent resource for me as I strive to help our department reach its full potential. I look forward to working with Dr. Reynolds and the rest of the executive committee, and the opportunity to provide essential support to all the student-athletes, coaches, and administrators who make up the
Division I-AAA."

Under McDermott, USF finished the spring semester with a department record 3.56 GPA. USF had 216 student-athletes achieve a 3.0 or higher -- 92% of the total number of student-athletes in the department. She has also overseen the construction of the Sobrato Club, including the finalizing of the plans and building which is on track to be completed in late fall.

San Jose Earthquakes forward Cristian Espinoza!
San Jose Earthquakes forward Cristian Espinoza m ade 30 starts in 30 appearances in the 2019 season, earning the club’s Offensive Player of the Year honors. Espinoza finished sixth in assists (13) and tied for second in game-winning assists (5) among all MLS players. He earned MLS Team of the Week honors for Weeks 6 and 26.
