From left, Jacob Soliday, a Honeoye graduate; Trey Wertman, a Penn Yan Academy graduate; Brayden Kane, a Honeoye-Falls Lima graduate; Zach Jones, a Red Creek graduate; and Stephany McBride, an Alexander graduate, take part in a demonstration during Activities Day in October. Activities Day is a long-standing FLCC tradition; classes are not scheduled one day each semester to allow for field trips, hands-on activities and demonstrations. Trey and Jacob led the presentation as part of their Athletic
Training Practicum course. The others are students in the Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries course and attended as participants.

Saturday, Nov. 11 is Fall Visit Day at the Finger Lakes Community College main campus.

For a printable copy of the schedule, click here.

The day begins at 8:50 a.m. with an Academic and Student Services Connections Fair where students can meet professors and college staff.  High school students can discuss their specific interests and get individual questions answered. Representatives from the athletic department, financial aid, the Equal Opportunity Program, student housing, disability services, and student activities will also be available.

Visitors will have an opportunity to attend information sessions on the application and financial aid process, transfer opportunities, career planning, and assistance for students who have not yet selected a major. FLCC has launched a new advising model in which all students will have at least two advisors from the moment their application is accepted so they can begin planning their schedules well before classes start.

GENEVA CAMPUS CENTER HOSTS TRANSFER FAIR

The FLCC Geneva Campus Center at 63 Pulteney St. held a transfer fair for two groups of 11th and 12th graders, one for students  from Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls and another for their counterparts in Waterloo on Oct. 25. The goal was to help high school students understand how transfer pathways work.

STUDENTS GET A TASTE OF COLLEGE 101

The FLCC-based Regional Education Continuum and the Gemini Office hosted an event called College 101 @ FLCC for  28 students from Marion, Sodus, and South Seneca on Oct. 17 at the main campus in Canandaigua.

College 101 @ FLCC provided the high schoolers with an opportunity to interact with FLCC faculty, staff, and students through mini-lessons focused on aspects related to success in college. The lessons included online learning, student life, academic support and academic advising. Students were also given a hands-on activity in which they built their own academic schedule, and professors talked to them about classroom expectations, teaching styles and the need for students to learn how to advocate for themselves.

The event was organized by assistant  humanities professor Jacqueline Tiermini, a leader in the Regional Education Continuum, and Fred Fink, director of the Gemini program.

FLCC plans to host another College 101 seminar in the spring. To get on the schedule, email to Fred.Fink@flcc.edu or call (585) 785-1668.
