Notes from the District

The 2015-2016 state report card was recently released and our school district made tremendous strides in multiple categories. The district raised all Value-Added measures scoring straight A's in every sub category. A district who receives a C in this category is equal to an average of one year of growth for all students, which is the expectation from the Ohio Department of Education. Southwest Licking Local Schools received a mark of an A, which is the equivalency of an average of two years growth for our students. This is quite an accomplishment for our staff and students.
The district also demonstrated improvement in our K-3 Literacy measure. This measure helps a district define if students who are behind in reading are receiving appropriate interventions with the end goal to be a passing score on the state test. Watkins Memorial High School received an A for their Graduation rating and a C for their Prepared for Success indicator.  The district also received a rating of C for Achievement and an F for our Gap Closing Measure. Our buildings, students and teachers are making great strides and are very proud of all of our academic accomplishments.
Every day in classrooms in our district wonderful things are happening that are not reflected in our report card.  The report card is only one indicator of success that is shared with our community. I know we will continue to grow and improve in our commitment to excellence as everyone works together to make Southwest Licking Schools an incredible place for our kids.

Sincerely,

Kasey Perkins
Assistant Superintendent, Southwest Licking Schools
