2016 SMALL WORKS CALENDAR
Feb. 12th: Deadline for Receiving all Entry Submissions,
Feb. 22nd: Notification of Acceptance
March 11th: Deadline for Accepted Work to be at Gallery.
March 18th & 19th: 2016 SMALL WORKS EXHIBIT OPENING RECEPTIONS
April 18th: Exhibition Concludes
About our entry process: The Lemonade Stand Gallery's Annual Small Works Show started in 2005 and since then has exhibited artists from around the globe. The entry process is easy. The only requirement is that the finished work is under 10 inches in any direction including the frame. All media is considered as long it is original - this includes photography. A selected jury determines which pieces get chosen for this year's exhibit. Artists have the opportunity to enter up to three pieces. If a piece is sold, the payment to the artist is a 50/50 gallery split. Together, the gallery and artist will determine the price before the opening reception. Artists are responsible for shipping to and from the gallery.
This year we are using "Call for Entry" for our entry process. We chose them because a lot of Florida Keys artists might already have an account and the South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant uses Call For Entry as well. For any other inquiries please email Caroline Stover-Sickmen at caroline@lettynowak.com ; Click LINK2 for Facebook Page

The City of Key West today released the 2015 Annual Report, giving the community an insight to the accomplishments of city government over the past year throughout the various departments. The report is available on the City's web site at www.cityofkeywest-fl.gov.
"I'm pleased to say that each department within the City was successful at providing essential services while staying within stringent budgetary guidelines," said City Manager Jim Scholl. "I've always said that, in addition to our responsibility for the public's welfare, we have an obligation of fiscal responsibility with taxpayers' money."
This is the 7th year that the Annual Report has been an electronic-only edition. That means a "green" report and an important savings of precious taxpayer dollars. However, if anyone is unable to access the electronic report, the City can supply a print copy: Just contact Communications Manager Alyson Crean at 305-809-1058.
The Key West Police Department's end of year report to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement shows overall crime dropped by almost 11 percent in 2015. The most dramatic drop was a reduction in robberies, which dropped by 50 percent over 2014. In 2015 there were 20 robberies, compared to the 40 reported in 2014.Violent crime dropped by over 20 percent in 2015. Burglaries dropped by nearly 17 percent.
Each year the Key West Police Department reports its crime statistics to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. These statistics are compiled for the entire state by the FDLE in its Uniform Crime Reporting system. "I'm reassured by this data," said Police Chief Donie Lee. "It reinforces the fact that Key West is a safe community. But even with these good numbers, we have to continue to reduce opportunities by locking doors and closing windows. I know we can do even better.
"Among other statistics reported:
·
Aggravated assaults dropped by 15.6 percent: 119 in 2015 compared to 141 in 2014.
·
Incidents of rape increased from 15 in 2014 to 18 in 2015.
·
Overall thefts went down by 7.8 percent, and within that, bicycle thefts went down by 12 percent.
·
There have been no murders in Key West since the single murder in 2012.
The partnership between the Key West Police Department and the community plays a vital role in preventing crime from happening, and solving crimes when they are committed, says Lee.

TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ANNUAL ANNE MCKEE ARTIST'S FUND FINE ART AUCTION
Tickets are now available for the annual Anne McKee Artist's Fund fine art auction. Attendees can choose from the work of
62 Florida Keys artists, ranging from renowned masters to emerging talents,
at the auction on Sunday, January 31st.
The annual auction raises money for project-based grants to Keys visual, literary and performing artists. This year the doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Fort East Martello on South Roosevelt Boulevard in Key West. Under the guidance of auctioneer Tom Luna, attendees can bid on original paintings, sculpture, photography, fiber art, ceramics, mixed media, jewelry and more.
This annual event is unique among the Keys' fine art auctions, because it is supported by artists with the sole purpose of benefiting artists. Each participating artist receives 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of his or her work, while the McKee Fund receives the remainder to award to Keys artists for select projects. Founded by longtime Key West resident Anne McKee, the not-for-profit fund has awarded more than $245,000 since 1994. Artist works will be displayed for viewing at Fort East Martello from January25th until the auction. Images of the works can also be seen on the Anne McKee Artist's Fund Facebook page.
A ticket to the auction includes an open bar, gourmet hors d'oeuvres from New York Pasta Garden as well as champagne and desserts. There is plenty of free parking.
Tickets are $35 per person at www.keystix.com and at the door the night of the event. For more information about the Anne McKee Artists Fund and its annual auction and artist grants, visit

Forgotten Felines 305-743-2520
Forgotten Felines is an all volunteer organization which provides food and veterinary care to homeless and abandoned cats in the Middle and Lower Keys. They also place adoptable cats in loving homes and strive to educate the public about the importance of proper care and spay/neuter of pets. In the nearly two decades of its existence, Forgotten Felines has spayed/neutered more than 3,000 cats. They also maintain a number of daily feeding stations which service several hundred homeless cats.
On behalf of the officers, directors, volunteers, and, most importantly the abandoned and feral cats for which we provide food, spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and medical care, Forgotten Felines of the Florida Keys would like to thank all of the generous donors who opened their hearts and their wallets during our recent fundraiser. The event was a huge success, meeting the goal that had been set by the leadership.
A special thanks goes out to Marathon businessman and animal lover Richie Morretti who made a matching grant for the first $5,000 collected in the drive.
interested in becoming a Forgotten Felines volunteer or to make a donation should call (305) 743-2520 OR 305-515-2759. Jerry Dykhuisen sends regards and this end of the year report :
