"INSIDE OPENED"
WORKS BY
MONICA LONCOLA
Sean Callahan tells us : Come join us at Dog Tired Studio and Gallery at 1011 Whitehead (corner of Whitehead and Julia) for our January Exhibition from Monica Loncola to the Gallery. "INSIDE OPENED" is a body of work inspired by the celebration of the lifting of sanctions between Cuba and the U.S. The Artist uses the Cuban Cigar box as her canvas. She incorporates original images, raw materials, and metaphor creating statements that are unique to each piece . We will also feature her nautical themed works. Having grown up on the Atlantic coast, the Monica Loncola is fascinated by fractal patterns found in nature both in botanicals and tidal life. Raise a toast to her first show here
on our beautiful Island.

2016 SMALL WORKS CALENDAR
Feb. 12th: Deadline for Receiving all Entry Submissions,
Feb. 22nd: Notification of Acceptance
March 11th: Deadline for Accepted Work to be at Gallery.
March 18th & 19th: 2016 SMALL WORKS EXHIBIT OPENING RECEPTIONS
April 18th: Exhibition Concludes
About our entry process: The Lemonade Stand Gallery's Annual Small Works Show started in 2005 and since then has exhibited artists from around the globe. The entry process is easy. The only requirement is that the finished work is under 10 inches in any direction including the frame. All media is considered as long it is original - this includes photography. A selected jury determines which pieces get chosen for this year's exhibit. Artists have the opportunity to enter up to three pieces. If a piece is sold, the payment to the artist is a 50/50 gallery split. Together, the gallery and artist will determine the price before the opening reception. Artists are responsible for shipping to and from the gallery.
This year we are using "Call for Entry" for our entry process. We chose them because a lot of Florida Keys artists might already have an account and the South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant uses Call For Entry as well. For any other inquiries please email Caroline Stover-Sickmen at caroline@lettynowak.com ; Click LINK2 for Facebook Page

David Scott Meier's popular prints and paintings are featured during January in our gallery. Highlighting the collection is a group of oils depicting tiny bunnies. Meier's popular giclee prints on canvas are favorites; some are embellished with 23 carat gold. Many dogs and cats populate his works.
Sandy Sun is a ceramic artist who makes unique pieces inspired by the natural beauty of Key West. Ocean life, such as fish, turtles, and starfish, as well as the exquisite flowers, trees, and leaves of the Florida Keys feature prominently in her work. Many of her pieces incorporate sgraffito, which means "to scratch" in Italian. It involves layering colored slips and carving back the layers into a design, revealing the contrasting color of the clay beneath. She also hand-sculpts detailed fish and turtles, and her new works feature dimensional wall tiles. Her pieces reflect both the asymmetry and order found in nature.

The Key West City Commission paid tribute to one of the Keys' biggest treasures -- County Historian Tom Hambright -- by proclaiming January 5
Hambright has worked for the Monroe County Library in Key West for the past 30 years. During that time, Tom has given presentations on Keys history to most of the nonprofit organizations in the county, from Key Largo to Key West. He has worked with authors, students, journalists, film producers, and scholars, sharing his wealth of knowledge. He assisted in the planning for and construction of a new wing for the Florida History collection that he helped develop and now oversees.
Before joining the library staff, Tom served 21 years with the Navy, retiring as Lieutenant Commander. Following that retirement, he worked as Curator for the Lighthouse Museum and East Martello for three years. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Old Island Restoration Foundation, the Salvation Army, and the Key West Art and Historical Society. He has also served on the board of the Key West Maritime Historical Society and has published articles in the Florida Keys Sea Heritage Journal and The Florida Genealogist. He has produced the daily column "Today in Keys History'' for the Key West Citizen with his wife, Lynda for many years.
During the past ten years, Hambright has ensured improved access to our local history by contributing more than 18,000 images with descriptions to the Web. But with all of these accomplishments, Hambright is probably best loved in the community for his accessibility and his encyclopedic knowledge of local history and lore.
"Although the Florida History archival collection has grown to be an extensive collection of unique materials, Tom's own memory is the real treasure of the collection," stated Mayor Craig Cates in the proclamation. "Tom Hambright is an extraordinary ambassador for Monroe County, and the City of Key West, and a historic treasure to the community."
The always humble historian thanked the commission for the honor. "In particular," he said, "I would like to thank the unique Florida Keys and Key West for having such a great history that gave me this job."
Commissioners Margaret Romero, Sam Kaufman, Jimmy Weekley and Clayton Lopez, County Historian Tom Hambright, Commissioners Richard Payne and Billy Wardlow, and Mayor Craig Cates.

TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ANNUAL ANNE MCKEE ARTIST'S FUND FINE ART AUCTION
Tickets are now available for the annual Anne McKee Artist's Fund fine art auction. Attendees can choose from the work of
62 Florida Keys artists, ranging from renowned masters to emerging talents,
at the auction on Sunday, January 31st.
The annual auction raises money for project-based grants to Keys visual, literary and performing artists. This year the doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Fort East Martello on South Roosevelt Boulevard in Key West. Under the guidance of auctioneer Tom Luna, attendees can bid on original paintings, sculpture, photography, fiber art, ceramics, mixed media, jewelry and more.
This annual event is unique among the Keys' fine art auctions, because it is supported by artists with the sole purpose of benefiting artists. Each participating artist receives 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of his or her work, while the McKee Fund receives the remainder to award to Keys artists for select projects. Founded by longtime Key West resident Anne McKee, the not-for-profit fund has awarded more than $245,000 since 1994. Artist works will be displayed for viewing at Fort East Martello from January25th until the auction. Images of the works can also be seen on the Anne McKee Artist's Fund Facebook page.
A ticket to the auction includes an open bar, gourmet hors d'oeuvres from New York Pasta Garden as well as champagne and desserts. There is plenty of free parking.
Tickets are $35 per person at www.keystix.com and at the door the night of the event. For more information about the Anne McKee Artists Fund and its annual auction and artist grants, visit

Forgotten Felines 305-743-2520
Forgotten Felines is an all volunteer organization which provides food and veterinary care to homeless and abandoned cats in the Middle and Lower Keys. They also place adoptable cats in loving homes and strive to educate the public about the importance of proper care and spay/neuter of pets. In the nearly two decades of its existence, Forgotten Felines has spayed/neutered more than 3,000 cats. They also maintain a number of daily feeding stations which service several hundred homeless cats.
On behalf of the officers, directors, volunteers, and, most importantly the abandoned and feral cats for which we provide food, spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and medical care, Forgotten Felines of the Florida Keys would like to thank all of the generous donors who opened their hearts and their wallets during our recent fundraiser. The event was a huge success, meeting the goal that had been set by the leadership.

A Message from Florida Keys TV :
T
his past year has been an extremely rewarding one for TV88, shown by the rapidly growing viewership. The viewership more than doubled since it started streaming TV88 on
www.FloridaKeysTelevision.com
last month.
MESSAGE TO THE VIEWING AUDIENCE -
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR WATCHING. IT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
For those wishing to know more about TV88 and what the future holds:
The 12 month lease agreement with Comcast is over on January 14th, and we will not be renewing.
There are 2 main reasons for this decision - 1. Comcast raised the monthly rate 40% making it impossible for a small community television channel like ourselves to have fun doing what we do!
2. Comcast's subscriber base is declining rapidly either because of customer dissatisfaction, because of switching to another service provider, or because of the audience converting to internet television.
We are taking the money that is no longer going to Comcast, and using it to develop a local internet television platform called "Florida Keys Television".
Florida Keys Television will be accessible to every television set in the United States without a monthly cost.
Florida Keys Television will have a lineup of a wide variety of Channels, including Channel 88 which is reserved for TV88. TV88 will continue broadcasting a recap of local events along with all the other fine programming being broadcasted currently.
Florida Keys Television will also include a news channel, a weather channel, a cooking channel, and home construction channel, a real estate channel, a travel channel, and a wide variety of other channels put together by locals and visitors to The Florida Keys - only using Florida Keys content.
Stay tuned to www.FloridaKeysTelevision.com
