With a focus on holistic health and wellness, our vision for WELL is to bring a greater awareness to the deeper, more spiritual side of the Florida Keys that often gets overlooked amidst all the restaurants, bars and tourist attractions. We are excited to see a growing community of people dedicated to inspiring health, wellness and green living throughout the Keys. In each edition of WELL we will be weaving in different people from our community to share their stories and expertise with us.

Richie Moretti, director/founder of the Turtle Hospital releases a juvenile green sea turtle into the lush grass beds of the Florida Bay with Linda Lindorffs, Swedish TV star. Linda's show filmed with the Turtle Hospital and was one of several international media events at the Turtle Hospital over the past month. The Turtle Hospital also filmed with German TV star Tamme Hanken. Sea turtles live in almost every ocean basin throughout the world. Raising awareness on a global level will help sea turtles survive. Compassion is contagious!

305-304-3203 Season Finale  : 3/13 Axiom Brass Quintet. Due to space constraints their website has greater detail)
Britain's Badke String Quartet, Quartet-in-Residence at London's Royal Holloway University, are center stage on February 28. Formed in 2002, the Quartet is widely recognized as one of Britain's finest string quartets, and they play on a fine set of instruments. Continuing the new/old coupling, Charlotte Scott performs on the 1685 'Gagliano' Stradivarius; Emma Parker, a Peter Guarnerius violin from 1672; Jon Thorne plays a Giovanni Grancino viola from 1692; and Nathaniel Boyd is performing on a Grancino cello from 1695.

The final concert of the season presents the Axiom Brass Quintet on March 13. The Chicago-based quintet's repertoire includes traditional brass quintets, string quartet transcriptions, early music, and unique arrangements of American and Latin jazz. The ensemble's commitment to new music has led to several world premieres and ongoing commissioning projects. Axiom Brass is an Ensemble-in-Residence at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, as well as Rush Hour Concerts' "Back of the Yards" program in Chicago

The Tennessee Williams Key West Exhibit is celebrating the playwright's March birthday by providing a series of cultural events to be held throughout the month. Artist and writers are invited to participate in three contests being offered as part of the celebration: Short Story Writing, Poetry and Plein Air Painting.

SAVE THE PINES
March 20th 1-5pm : Fort Zachary Taylor state park
Pic from Johnny White and WWW.MILEZEROKEYWEST.COM

Join us for a picnic under the pines to celebrate the 8th year anniversary of Save Our Pines organization and their successful efforts to stop removal of our beautiful and functional Australian Pines at Fort Zachary Taylor.

Other than the general admittance to the park, no tickets are required. The picnic will be potluck-style so feel free to bring a dish to share, beverages of your choice, and chairs or blankets for your relaxing pleasure. Napkins, utensils and water will kindly be provided by Blue Heaven and Salute!
Community support has been essential in preserving this Key West landmark as we know it. The picnic under the pines is an opportunity to, not only take pride in another year's work together, but also to show our commitment in continuing the work necessary to maintain the heath and safety of our pines at Fort Zach. There will be a raffle for some great prizes donated from local people and businesses during the picnic. The Adopt-A-Pine program, which provides a chance for interested persons to sponsor a tree for a nominal tax-free contribution, will also be highlighted.

Stay tuned to find out the raffle items you'll be able to bid on as well as what fun additions we'll be adding to the program. We are still in need of raffle items and volunteers. For more information, or to support the organization with a donation, raffle item, or to become a volunteer, call 305-294-0609 or email [email protected].  More Info : https://www.facebook.com/saveourpineskeywest/?fref=ts

Officer Clark started with the Key West Police Department in April of 2012. He serves as one of four quality of life officers, addressing vagrancy in the city. He was named Officer of the Second Half of 2015 and received the Gallantry Award for the bravely he displayed during a November incident. "Because of his exemplary performance and dedicated professionalism, we name him Officer of the Year."
Chief Lee noted that the Key West Chamber of Commerce also named Officer Clark the Officer of the Year. NEW TENNESSEE WILLIAMS EXHIBIT TO OPEN AT CUSTOM HOUSE-Key West Art & Historical Society welcomes the public to the opening of its new Tennessee Williams gallery, a permanent installation on the 2
nd floor of the Custom House Museum, on Thursday, March 17 from 5:30-7pm. While most known as one of the 20
th century's most significant playwrights for works that include "A Streetcar Named Desire," "The Glass Menagerie," and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," Williams also took up oil painting as a form of relaxation while living in Key West. The new gallery will feature several of his paintings on permanent loan from philanthropist David Wolkowsky, one of Williams' closest personal friends ; featured here is a portrait of Wolkowsky entitled "L'inconnu C'est les Yeux." "Several of the paintings have allusions to his writings, including illustrating characters from his plays, short stories and poems," says Society Curator Cori Convertito, PhD. The opening coincides with the Tennessee Williams Festival and The Society's Lunchtime Curator Session on Wednesday, March 16 from 12-1pm featuring Tennessee Williams Key West Exhibit Curator Dennis Beaver, who will explore Williams' lasting impact on Key West and lead guests on a VIP tour of the gallery after his talk. Key West Art & Historical Society presents prominent artist Roberta Marks at the Custom House Museum from April 8 until June 7 in "Roberta Marks: a Retrospective," a cohesive exhibition of nearly thirty years of her mixed media work.
Marks, whose work has won many awards and is widely collected and featured at numerous museums and galleries throughout the country, creates mixed media pieces via photographs, paintings, collages and constructions that investigate the mystery of being. Her constructions, fabricated using found, bought or gifted objects and materials, are portrayed as stage sets, representing the artist's existence and personal landscape.
The exhibit will open on Friday, April 8 from 6:00-7:30, with special member VIP entry at 5:30 pm. "Roberta Marks: a Retrospective" is sponsored in part by the Helmerich Trust. For more information call Curator Cori Convertito, PhD. at 295.6616 x 112 or visit WWW.KWAHS.ORG

New Visitors Guides at the Lower Keys Chamber
The Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce has received its much-anticipated new Visitors Guides, which promote the area from the Seven Mile Bridge through Stock Island. The Guides, which are both beautiful and informative, drive potential customers to Chamber member businesses by giving them contact information in the alphabetical and the category sections. The Chamber mails thousands of these guides every year to visitors who request them via phone, email and chats through the TDC's site.

The Visitors Guide is available on the Lower Keys Chamber's website: www.lowerkeyschamber.com, as well as being accessible on mobile devices. It provides a comprehensive overview of the many natural attractions in the Lower Keys to entice visitors to spend some time relaxing and enjoying all there is to do here. The information contained in the Guide also addresses the many ecological concerns we have here, advising tourists not to feed the Key Deer, asking that they refrain from littering and advising them of the delicate ocean environment that surrounds us. Anyone is welcome to pick up a new Visitors Guide at the Lower Keys Chamber & Visitors Center at 31020 Overseas Hwy in Big Pine Key, M-F 9am - 5pm or Sat., 9am- 3pm.
