Britain's Badke String Quartet, Quartet-in-Residence at London's Royal Holloway University, are center stage on February 28. Formed in 2002, the Quartet is widely recognized as one of Britain's finest string quartets, and they play on a fine set of instruments. Continuing the new/old coupling, Charlotte Scott performs on the 1685 'Gagliano' Stradivarius; Emma Parker, a Peter Guarnerius violin from 1672; Jon Thorne plays a Giovanni Grancino viola from 1692; and Nathaniel Boyd is performing on a Grancino cello from 1695.
The final concert of the season presents the Axiom Brass Quintet on March 13. The Chicago-based quintet's repertoire includes traditional brass quintets, string quartet transcriptions, early music, and unique arrangements of American and Latin jazz. The ensemble's commitment to new music has led to several world premieres and ongoing commissioning projects. The Key West Police Department is once again joining a statewide effort to educate motorists about the importance of using seat belts. The Click It or Ticket campaign is a two-week long program aimed at reminding drivers that seatbelts save lives. Between March 1st and March 14th, law enforcement officers throughout the state will be conducting round-the-clock sweeps for motorists who fail to fasten the safety belts.
During this campaign, it's also a good time to remind parents that child restraints are vital, and they must be used properly. But children are not the primary audience for the Click It or Ticket campaign. Statistics show that young men between 18 and 34 are least likely to wear seat belts. This year's campaign dovetails with spring break, the perfect target audience for the Click It or Ticket message.
The campaign, coupled with Florida's seat belt law, has proven successful over the years. It's estimated that about 85 percent of motorists use seat belts. Florida law requires the use of safety belts for all drivers and passengers in all motorized vehicles, with some very limited exceptions.
A statewide advertising campaign is aimed at reminding people that seat belts save lives. And if that's not enough of an incentive, motorists should think of the financial impact - tickets can be expensive!

Becky Herrin sends regard and this Info. : These kids, from Mrs. Kate Hofstetter's class at Treasure Village Montessori School, are celebrating. They just graduated an 11 week intensive drug, alcohol, and tobacco resistance course called Project Alert. Project Alert helps kids in 7th grade learn about the consequences of giving in to peer pressure as it relates to alcohol, tobacco and drug use. Each lesson has a specific topic, and kids act out skits during which they get to practice resistance skills. The last class ended with students writing a commitment essay on why they wish to live a healthy drug free life. In the picture, they are tossing up their essays as they would toss up their graduation caps.

NEW TENNESSEE WILLIAMS EXHIBIT TO OPEN AT CUSTOM HOUSE-Key West Art & Historical Society welcomes the public to the opening of its new Tennessee Williams gallery, a permanent installation on the 2
nd floor of the Custom House Museum, on Thursday, March 17 from 5:30-7pm. While most known as one of the 20
th century's most significant playwrights for works that include
"A Streetcar Named Desire," "The Glass Menagerie," and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," Williams also took up oil painting as a form of relaxation while living in Key West.
The new gallery will feature several of his paintings on permanent loan from philanthropist David Wolkowsky, one of Williams' closest personal friends
; featured here is a portrait of Wolkowsky entitled
"L'inconnu C'est les Yeux." "Several of the paintings have allusions to his writings, including illustrating characters from his plays, short stories and poems," says Society Curator Cori Convertito, PhD. The opening coincides with the Tennessee Williams Festival and The Society's Lunchtime Curator Session on Wednesday, March 16 from 12-1pm featuring Tennessee Williams Key West Exhibit Curator Dennis Beaver, who
will explore Williams' lasting impact on Key West and lead guests on a VIP tour of the gallery after his talk. For more information call Cori Convertito at 295.6616 x 112 or visit
