OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE:
CHILDREN & YOUTH
Children and youth are not only the future of our church, they are vital parts of the body now! Teaching them, mentoring them, learning from them...it's all a privilege and we invite you to answer the call if you feel led!
Children's ministry will re-launch Sunday School and Wednesday Kids Club in September. If you're willing to help with either one or both for various age groups from newborns through grade 5, please sign up here. All of the different serving opportunities are listed on the form. Pastor Patty will reach out to you with additional information!
Youth Ministry will have September openings for once-a-month Sunday school teachers and helpers during both 9am and 11am services. There are also openings for Wednesday night youth group leaders. Interested? Reach out to Pastor Brie! Your lives will be enriched as you get to know these young people!

ROOTED
Rooted is a foundational 4-week series providing an overview of Harrisburg BIC, from our history and our commitment to multiethnic community to what it means to participate in the life of HBIC today. This is an opportunity for long-time attenders to gain a fresh vision of who we are as an (ever-changing) community of faith. Rooted can also help newcomers to answer questions and dive into deeper involvement in this community!
Our Rooted classes take place on Sunday mornings at 11am and run for 4 weeks in January, March, May, September and November. Sign up for our next Rooted class, starting on September 8, here or at the Info Desks at the back of the sanctuary.

You are invited to an evening of desserts and discussion with a few of the authors of Compelling Convictions, which offers a special opportunity to explore our BIC Core Values anew! (Pastors Hank and Lynda won't be a part of the panel of authors for this event, but they co-authored one of the chapters of this book, by the way, and were a part of the panel at General Assembly. It's a great book, we hope you'll check it out.)

Where: Nooks Books (112 North Prince Street, Lancaster)
Register here (f you pre-register, you can be entered into a drawing for a free book!) to attend!

AUGUST SABBATH
Each August, we take a break from things like meetings, group activities, and Sunday School for grades K-12. This helps give our volunteers a much-needed break before the school-year busyness ramps up! Thanks for welcoming the kids and youth for the duration of our worship services through August.
Note: Newborns through Pre-K classes will still be open through August!

YOUTH AUGUST HANG-OUTS
All youth are welcome to congregate in the Large Youth Room and Open Area between church services for the month of August. Pastor Brie will have a snack for you and the pool and ping pong tables will be available. We welcome all youth to come and join us in our space to connect even though we won't be having regular youth Sunday School. Our hang-out time will end promptly at 11:00am in order to not disrupt the second worship service.

FAMILY SLIP-N-SLIDE
All families are invited to our Slip 'n Slide party at the Payne/Weidler houses on Saturday, August 17 at 2pm. You're welcome to bring a snack to share. It'll be helpful know how many are coming, so please sign up here if you plan to join in some free summer fun!
Parking is available at Covenant Christian Academy. Contact Pastor Patty with questions!

MENTORSHIP TRAINING NIGHT
The HBIC Discipleship Team is hosting a Mentorship Training Night on August 29 at 6:30. This will be an event for anyone who is already in, is going to be in, or is interested in being in a spiritual mentor/mentee relationship. We encourage anyone with the desire to grow through mentorship to join us! Dessert and childcare will be provided.

FALL MEN'S RETREAT
The world is a wild, undisciplined place full of mixed messages about discipline and its value. We want to know what it means to be disciplined towards God. What are some practices of spiritual discipline that offer guidance for navigating those mixed messages we encounter? How can we be disciplined together as a community of faith?
All HBIC men are invited to our men’s retreat where, with our speaker, Nate Hackman, we will explore these questions as we work together to learn and do specific disciplines that bring us closer to God. We'll have plenty of time for fun, games, and hanging out, too. The retreat will be Friday evening, September 20 through Saturday afternoon, September 21 at Kenbrook Bible Camp. Space is limited, so please register by 9/1 (see costs in the registration form) here.

Each week during August, our Missions Ministry Team will be providing a couple suggested ways to pray for missionaries. We hope you will make use of these suggestions and join us in praying for the missionaries sent out from HBIC, for Global workers serving with BIC World Missions, and for all of the other mission workers serving here in the US and throughout the world.
Pray for Protection (2 Thessalonians 3:2)
- That God will keep missionaries safe.
- That God will change the hearts of those who are resistant to his Word.
|
Pray for Effective Ministry (John 15:5)
- That God will provide strength and perseverance when their ministry seems to be fruitless.
- That seeds will be planted and that missionaries would be able to see the fruits of their labor.
- That an abundant harvest will be produced as more people learn about the love of Christ.

(Touch base with Pastor Lynda or others on the Missions Ministry Team if you'd like to know more about any of the missionaries sent out from HBIC.)
2151 GREENWOOD ST. UPDATE
The church board shared an important update regarding the zoning challenges with the Greenwood Street property potential purchase. Check it out here if you missed the email!

FREEZER MEAL SWAP
Fill your freezer with a variety of tasty meals & snacks while also building community and helping others too! To participate, each person will make multiple batches of a meal or snack, then trade with other members in your group so that you all have one of each thing.
You will be grouped with others who have similar dietary preferences and we encourage everyone to make one extra batch to donate to someone in our church community.
If you’re interested, sign up here by August 18 and we will update you once you’re assigned to a group.
Reach out to us with any questions!
