An important update from the HBIC Church Board on the Greenwood St. property purchase progress:

As shared previously, a major challenge to finalizing the purchase of 2151 Greenwood Street is its "Industrial" zoning. In the City of Harrisburg, a "Place of Worship" is not allowed in areas zoned Industrial.

At the Harrisburg City Zoning Board on Monday night, the church made the case that our planned uses for 2151 Greenwood Street were the same as office activities which are allowed in buildings zoned Industrial. Our proposed uses also align with previous building usage including staff offices, meetings, and education classes.

Unfortunately, the zoning board ruled against our argument that our use was administrative and sided with the City Planner's perspective that all activity undertaken by a church would be considered "Place of Worship" and so would be in violation of the zoning code.

This decision will at minimum delay our purchase of 2151 Greenwood Street as additional zoning conversations would take several months. We are discussing potential paths forward with our lawyer, but this is a significant challenge that may block the purchase.

Please be in prayer for those working on this purchase and the board as we try to discern the best path forward!
