Leadership Skills Workshop March 6

One of our central goals at the Office for Senior Faculty Affairs (OSFA) is to offer opportunities for mid-career faculty to build their toolbox of leadership skills. We previously discussed our first very successful Leadership Skills workshop held last Nov 17. The next Leadership Skills offering comes March 6 with topics that are complementary and non-overlapping with the first workshop—and frankly speaking, really fantastic! Here’s a quick preview:

  • Josh Goldstein, newly minted Director of the Center for Faculty Development, will speak about the Shift from Mentoring to Sponsorship. Sponsorship is a different way to see your mentoring role as you grow into a leader and a great way to nurture your trainees.
  • Andy Nirenberg, Co-Director of the Center for Clinical Research Education (among many other titles), will present on How to Give a Talk. In many ways, we’re defined by the quality of our presentations, so this is a key skill to keep building.
  • Anna Brown, MGN Senior Vice President, and Chief DEI Officer, will discuss a different kind of building: Building Diversity and Avoiding Unconscious Bias. Unconscious bias is everywhere, but can at least be identified and minimized in the goal of reaping the benefits of diversity.
  • Finally, Sabrina Paganoni, Co-Director of the MGH Neurological Research Institute, will discuss Building and Managing Teams. Sabrina will be drawing on her recent success in building a team to perform ground-breaking platform trials.

The March 6 workshop will be held in the Simches 3rd floor conference room—and if the talks weren’t already enough, there will also be lunch and networking time! We encourage you to consider this great opportunity to sharpen your leadership skills together with your rising faculty colleagues.

With best wishes,

Steve
