Tribute to a refined justice warrior ~ Pat Snyder (1937-2023)
During her 30 + years as a single-payer advocate in California, Pat was an inspirational mentor. She encouraged and enabled people around her to share, to 
work together and to teach one another. Friends and colleagues described her as amazing, grounded, strong, experienced, wise, insightful, inspirational, kind, generous, enthusiastic, witty . . .
Pat has left a rich legacy. We can honor her and keep her legacy alive by continuing to lift each other up and support each other, in our fight for single payer health care. Read more.
California says, “Stop ACO REACH!”
The California Legislature voted to send a strong message to Washington, D.C., protesting corporate profiteering from Traditional Medicare. AJR 4, proposed by Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo (AD 40) with a robust crew of co-authors, calls for an end to the ACO REACH program. Read more.
It takes a movement... SB 770 passes the legislature!
Single payer activists from diverse groups working through the Healthy California Now coalition spurred SB 770 (Unified Health Care Financing) through the legislature this year. It was a major political achievement and powerful movement-building experience. The bill now awaits the governor's signature. Read more.

In the last general election, Chico resident and single payer activist, Bruce McLean, took a non-partisan approach to campaigning for a progressive Assembly candidate. Door-to-door conversations revealed that regardless of party affiliation, people want guaranteed publicly financed healthcare. Read more.

Tabling is a staple of grassroots organizing. At weekly farmer’s markets, annual events, and any day on a college campus, tabling connects us with our communities. Fairs were a popular venue for HCA chapters this month. Read more.
Hospital exposé hits a nerve
Films are a great vehicle for starting conversations about the need for single payer. You’ll find some popular ones by scrolling down on this Take Action page. The most recent one to come out is the exposé, American Hospitals. The HCA-PNHP Humboldt County chapter screened the doc in Arcata and listened to what viewers had to say. Read more.

Looking for the HCA Class of 1996
HCA is nearing its 30th anniversary, having officially formed in June 1996. We have a rich history that we want to recall, honor, and learn from. Dessa Kaye of San Fernando Valley is heading up a tribute to the founding members and activists who built the organization. She needs help from any and all who are able to contribute. Read more
