JUNE 2023

Falls Free Wisconsin How You Can Help!

We'll be launching the Falls Free Wisconsin Center in September 2023 - Falls Prevention Awareness Month in Wisconsin - and need your help to raise awareness of the tools and resources available to older adults, their families, caregivers and professionals who support them. Visit the link below to let us know what you have planned for Falls Prevention Awareness Month and what resources we can provide you with to promotion falls prevention in your community.

Bring Falls Free Wisconsin to your community

Thank you!

For all you do to support the health and well-being of older adults in your community - thank you, thank you, thank you!

Some Quick Updates from WIHA:

  • Congratulations to Laura Armstrong and ProHealth Care for winning the Healthy Living with Diabetes Bonus Session Challenge. Special thanks to all the program providers who offered a bonus session.
  • It is not to late to register for the upcoming facilitator trainings. Healthy Living with Chronic Pain, Tomando Control de su Salud, Vivir Saludable con Diabetes will be starting in July. Stepping On, Mind Over Matter, and Physical Activity for Lifelong Success (PALS) will be offered this fall.
  • A reminder that data packets need to be returned 2 weeks after your workshops.
  • The Falls Data by County that was sent out in the last WIHA Update was recently updated. There was an error in the age-adjusted rate of fall deaths data on the last page. Please use the updated document.
  • The Stepping On program resources page for facilitators was recently updated! Check out the changes here and don’t forget about the new technical assistance guides that were developed for funding your Stepping On program, facilitator recruitment and retention and tips for engaging guest experts.

WIHA Office Hours

If you weren't able to join us for June’s Office Hours, you can catch up by checking out the recording. This month we provided an update on the Falls Free Wisconsin initiative with a focus on promotion plans and a discussion in breakout groups on strategies for local promotion. We also discussed results from the first two editions of AgeWell - a newsletter for consumers to provide information and motivation to encourage older adults to take control of their health. Thanks to all who participated!

NEW in 2023!

WIHA is piloting a new fidelity check process for the chronic conditions workshops (only required for the Self-Management Resource Center Programs: Living Well with Chronic Conditions/Tomando Control de su Salud, Healthy Living with Diabetes/Vivir Saludable con Diabetes, Healthy Living with Chronic Pain). All facilitators will be required to complete a self-evaluation to ensure that the fidelity of the program is being upheld. This form must be completed once a year, per program (only required for SMRC programs).

Once complete, forms may be mailed to the WIHA office or entered online. This form must be submitted no later than 2 weeks after the end of the workshop.

The form is located on the WIHA website under the Planning Your Workshop tab. Please feel free to reach out to Amie Rein with any questions.
