President's Update

Please join me in warmly welcoming our newest board member, William (Billy) Becker. You might remember reading about Billy in the spotlight in our August newsletter. Billy filled a vacancy left by Anna Millard, who recently resigned for personal reasons.

Regarding our Community Building litigation, there are currently no new developments, as we await the decision of the Appeals Court. Summit View representatives continue urging Walden Hills committee members to engage meaningfully on shared building concerns. Unfortunately, Walden Hills remains unwilling to meet in person and has limited discussions to select items, such as replacing the pool area's furnace and approving the 2025 budget. The budget approval was impossible due to their delayed submission of essential 2024 and 2025 financial data, which, when we finally received it, revealed potential insufficient funds for their proposed expenditures. We remain hopeful for clearer progress once the appeal decision is finalized.

Thank you for your ongoing support—being on a board is difficult enough, and under these stressful circumstances, your kind remarks make it easier.

Summit View Air Conditioner Replacement

Walden Management sent information in an email on behalf of the Board regarding the replacement of the air conditioning (A/C) units. Summit View was built using side-vented A/C condensers. Some contractors have told co-owners that these are no longer available, which is not true. AllTemp Heating and Cooling is able to provide and install side-vented A/C units and has been for many years. Please let us know if you're aware of any other local contractors who also provide side vented units, and we will confirm and share that information with the community.

Let's Keep Summit View Beautiful - Together

At Summit View, we’re more than neighbors—we’re a community. Every day, simple actions make a big difference in keeping our shared spaces welcoming and clean. Here are some quick and friendly reminders to help us keep Summit View beautiful:

-If you spot litter, pick it up -- this helps us all!

-Keeping personal items inside your unit ensures hallways remain safe and inviting.

-Always clean up after your furry friends so our lawns and sidewalks stay enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you for making Summit View a community we’re all proud to call home. Your efforts matter and are greatly appreciated!

Ice Cream, Books, and Neighbors—Oh My!

Do you love curling up with a good book but sometimes struggle to decide what to read next? Are you an ice cream enthusiast who enjoys a sweet treat? How about spending some quality time with your neighbors? We're excited to announce that we're combining these three delightful things into one fantastic event—our very first Ice Cream and Book Swap Night!

Coming soon to the Community Building, this casual and tasty gathering is the perfect way to share your favorite books, discover exciting new reads recommended by your neighbors, and indulge in some delicious ice cream together.

Keep an eye out for your official invitation in May. Until then, start browsing your shelves for books that might intrigue others and get ready to enjoy a scoop or two (or three—we won't judge!). We hope to see you there!

Spotlight on Rafael Correia Cavalcante

Meet Rafael, one of Summit View's engaging residents who has called our community home for the past year and a half. He shares his cozy abode with his partner, Gui Tomasetti, and their charming West-Highland White Terriers, Chiara and Klunkers.

Originally from Maceió, the capital city of the coastal Brazilian state of Alagoas, Rafael has explored life in several countries, but he feels happiest here in the United States. Drawn to America’s vibrant culture, commitment to equality, and abundant economic opportunities, Rafael is thrilled to call Summit View and Ann Arbor his home.

Rafael's educational and professional journey is as impressive as it is intriguing. Initially earning his medical degree, he dedicated six years to practicing cranio-facial surgery in São Paulo, Brazil. Despite his skill and dedication, the high-risk nature of cranio-facial deformities corrective surgeries—which sometimes required multiple interventions and occasionally involved significant complications—led Rafael to seek an academic path. Recognizing his relentless curiosity and passion for knowledge, Rafael decided to pursue a Ph.D.

His next step was truly remarkable. Click here to find out why!
