Why are there no Women Artists?
Mon., Jan. 27, 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Art instructor Je’ Czaja’s student Ann looked up at her worriedly and asked, “Why are there no women artists?” Of course, there ARE women artists. Her question inspired Je’ to conduct deep research covering art from the Stone Age to the present and from all over the world. In this presentation, Je’ hopes to answer Ann’s question.

The museum has several exhibits that highlight the Shipwrecks of Dog Island; Carrabelle’s Heroes & Notables; the story of Tate’s Hell Swamp; the Steamship Tarpon, which was key to building our community in the early 1900’s; and Carrabelle’s “First People”, Indigenous people who lived here thousands of years ago.
Connect with a Classic Banned Book:
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Mon., Feb. 3, 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Steinbeck's 1937 novella describes the experiences of two displaced migrant ranch workers as they move from place to place in California seeking jobs during the Great Depression and is based on Steinbeck's own experiences working along migrant farm workers in the 1910’s. The book appears on the American Library Association‘s list of the Top 100 Banned/Challenged Books. Instructor Kathy Allman will help us to understand elements such as theme, symbolism, and character development, as well as some of the notable passages. Join us for a robust discussion of this American classic.
