Welcome to Part 1 of our Serengeti Exploration!
This month, the Travulous team continued their overland expedition around East Africa, visiting one of the best-known wildlife attractions on the African continent, Serengeti National Park. Departing Kigali in our trusty 4x4, we embarked on our 1500+ kilometer roundtrip journey to this iconic national park in north-central Tanzania. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Serengeti is best known for its huge herds of plains animals, and together with the Maasai Mara, it is the only place in Africa where vast land-animal migrations still take place. Approximately 35 species of plains animals call the Serengeti home, in addition to lions, hyenas, leopards, hippopotamuses, giraffes, cheetahs, baboons, and more than 350 species of birds, including ostriches and flamingos.
Our recent visits to Bwindi, the Maasai Mara and Serengeti represent a company milestone for our business. In our quest to film some of our favourite properties in the leading East African wildlife destinations, Kristin and Richard have traversed across four countries, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda, and covered in excess of 4,500 kilometers by road. We have driven around the whole of Lake Victoria - which is Africa's largest lake by area, the world's largest tropical lake, and the world's second-largest freshwater lake by surface area after Lake Superior in North America!
These overland expeditions enable us to see and experience more of East Africa while offering time and flexibility to visit as many top-class tented camps and lodges during a single visit. Visiting multiple properties enables us to directly compare facilities and services, resulting in us providing superior destination knowledge to share with our customers. Our strength is local knowledge: from the best national parks, lodges and tented camps; to the most rewarding activities and authentic behind-the-scenes experiences. We will always work to ensure our suppliers fulfill all their service-level obligations, and as the local destination and logistics experts, we are always there to help if something does not go according to plan.
