Uganda's Ancient Rainforest
Home to Almost Half of the World's Mountain Gorillas
Greetings from Kigali!

In January, the Travulous team visited Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for three days of filming our favourite lodges and tented camps. Ranked as one of our most enjoyable site inspection trips, this UNESCO-protected national park, located in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley, was showcased by CNN Travel as one of the "25 most beautiful places around the world".

According to the most recent census, Bwindi, one of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests dating back over 25,000 years, is home to approximately 459 mountain gorillas. The world's remaining 604 mountain gorillas live in the Virunga Massif, an area intersected by the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC. At the end of 2019, it was estimated that the overall population of mountain gorillas had reached 1063.

Offering a wild and unique jungle safari experience, the biodiversity of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park extends far beyond its most famous inhabitants, the mountain gorillas. Approximately 350 bird species, 400 plant species and 220 butterfly species can be found within the national park's expanse, all contributing to Bwindi's ecological uniqueness and natural beauty.
