State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP)

ITCVA is committed to supporting the social-emotional needs of children and families. The ultimate goal of the current SSIP is to improve the percentage of infants and toddlers who substantially increase their rate of growth in the area of positive social-emotional skills (including social relationships) by the time they exit early intervention.

LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION

Hosted by:Tracy Walters, M.Ed. ECSE, IMH-E, EOLD

Happy New Year to all Early Intervention Practitioners!

As is customary for many of us, I have spent many days leading up to the New Year reflecting on 2023 and what lies ahead in 2024. This year has been a year of innovation, creativity, and growth for so many of us as we work with children, families, and colleagues. As the Early Intervention field continues to evolve, we continue to broaden our practices for children, families, and practitioners. One of our efforts in 2023 was to provide an opportunity for our Local System Managers to participate in a Reflective Leadership Cohort. These sessions are designed to bring LSM’s together monthly for didactic content on Leadership, and reflective Supervision. The reflections received from participating LSM’s have been extremely positive, many comments included the following: having space to reflect about their work, building unity within the field, and the ability to access resources/strategies from peers. We continue to look at innovative approaches to inspire our practitioners, create unifying spaces for interaction, and support ongoing development within our workforce. If you are a Local System Manager and are interested in joining our group in the new year, please feel free to contact me directly at Tracy.walters@dbhds.virginia.gov, our next meeting date will be January 26, from 9-10a.m. Consider joining this cutting-edge group of practitioners!

PROMOTING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Pyramid Model Framework

With the goal of promoting the positive social, emotional and behavioral outcomes of young children (birth through five), reducing the use of inappropriate discipline practices, increasing the inclusion and ongoing participation of young children with disabilities in early childhood settings, and the promotion of family engagement, the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations (NCPMI) provides support in implementing the Pyramid Model framework with fidelity through:

  • Practical guidance
  • Professional development materials and trainings
  • Tools and informational resources

The Early Intervention Implementation Checklist is designed to align with the Early Intervention Pyramid Practices Fidelity Instrument (EIPPFI). Coaches and early interventionists can use this tool to support early interventionists’ self-reflection of the implementation of Pyramid practices and prepare for shared goals and action planning.
