Visit Inside New London Harbor Lighthouse!

We give tours year-round!

Meet at the lighthouse, then climb 116 steps to the lantern room -- all the while learning the 262-year history of Harbor Light, one of the oldest lights in the country, and the tallest on Long Island Sound. The 1865 4th-order fresnel lens remains in the lantern room. Views at the top are spectacular! Photo: fog and a tropical wind enveloped our visitors on Tuesday.

Tours take 40 minutes. Book a tour for up-to five people: click to sign up, or email to schedule a tour during the week. Tickets are $35, $30 for NLMS members, $25 youth through age 18. Sign up today! Photo, below: Tuesday's balmy breeze stirred up the birds.

This week at the Custom House...

It was kind of a mixed bag this week, with construction starting on the controversial six-story apartment building just down the block from the museum. It was an empty lot I'd hoped would become a park or playground, keeping the view of the harbor clear from Bank Street. But that is not to be. Work commenced by ripping out street trees at the back...

On a happier note, our board met in-person for the first time in over two years. To start off, everyone carpooled to Harbor Lighthouse to see for themselves the transformation our Good to Great grant delivered.

Back at the Custom House, Adrianna Bates, a longtime volunteer (and even longer-time friend), who joined the board a year ago, made a celebratory dinner for us all: we loved it! Adrianna works in Special Collections at Yale's Center for British Art. She'll be helping us with fundraising as well as with the collections.

Save the date: NLMS's Annual Meeting will take place Sunday, November 13, at 2PM.

We're online & on facebook!

Watch New London HarborCam, our 24/7 eye on the harbor. We've had over 2.3 million viewers!
