marine mobile

new in the SHOP

As we prepare for the Holidays delightful new gifts arrive in the Shop almost daily -- but in limited quantities. (We have only two, each, of the marine and space mobiles, for example.) These whimsical creations were hand-made in Paris by a traditional Chinese kitemaker -- painted silk on a bamboo frame.

Last week at the Custom House...

There was a crowd on Tuesday. In fact, it was standing room, only, for a talk by the artist Brechin Lee Morgan. Brec told the story of how he sailed single-handedly around the world; sketchbooks from that trip still inspire his paintings. We had artists in the audience, and a handful of first-timers along with our regulars.

It's a lively group that gathers for Jibboom. The Jibboom Club is not a 'club' but an open friendly gathering which meets monthly on the third Tuesday, March through November. All are welcome. We have coffee and cookies, and it's free. The next meeting will be November 15. If you missed it, we now have Brec's book about his adventure in our Shop.

Behind the scenes, we're doing a lot with the schools. Two classes of sixth graders from Norwich were in to see the Amistad exhibition Friday morning, and the Local-History & Landmarks program is now booming along in four NL elementary schools.

At the museum, repairs from winter's water damage are almost complete. Our new show will be hung, and the woolies exhibition put back in place this week. Open Mic is next Sunday at 6. We want to see you there!
