A Word from the Staff
By Alexander Pattavina
“You’d have to get your head examined!”
Years ago, that’s what my grandmother told my parents if they’d agree to let me become a chorister at a choir school. It was a life-altering commitment for me, my parents, and my two siblings. A 7:40 am school starting time after an hour-long commute weekdays and Sundays - plus a weeknight rehearsal, frequent concerts, weddings, and funerals, for four years: my grandmother was right…we must’ve been crazy!

George Herbert’s Love (III), with its moving depiction of a generous and forgiving Love, is one of the most cherished poems in the Anglican tradition. Julie Crawford, the Mark Van Doren Professor of Humanities at Columbia University, offers a close reading of the text, informed by Herbert’s biography and historical context. Please post your questions for our speaker in the YouTube or Facebook comments section or email the Reverend Peter Thompson, Vicar.

In conversation with our medical advisory group, and consistent with the latest studies reported by the Centers for Disease Control, we are asking all eligible adults who wish to attend in-person worship to be able to show proof of vaccination and a booster shot by Ash Wednesday, March 2. We are also asking children ages 5 and above to be able to show proof of vaccination. We have already made this requirement for our employees and the vast majority of our parishioners and their children have already received these vaccinations and booster shots. Read the letter from the Rector.

Sundays March 6 and 20 - Save the dates
Join us for recitals at 4 pm on Sundays March 6 and 20, when Alexander Pattavina and Paolo Bordignon enjoy 45 minutes to open the instrument up to repertoire including concert favorites. The tradition of organ recitals in Lent goes back many decades at St. Bart's and we're delighted to re-introduce these concerts. These are in-person only, with a large monitor for the audience to be able to look over the organist's shoulders.
