UCSF Sets Deadline for Booster Shots

Due to the spread of the Omicron variant, UCSF has set a deadline for all eligible members of the UCSF community to get booster shots by Jan. 15, 2022. Here’s what you should know:

To be eligible for a booster, you must have received your second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least six months ago or your Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago. You can mix and match whichever vaccine brand you prefer for the booster shot.

UCSF is reserving appointments for employees to get booster shots this weekend. To find out how and where to get a booster shot at UCSF, please visit the coronavirus vaccine information page. To see the holiday schedule for COVID-19 vaccines and testing, please see this page.

Booster shots are widely available through vaccination clinics, health care providers, Safeway stores and neighborhood pharmacies.

Californians can visit the My Turn website or call (833) 422-4255 to make an appointment or find a nearby vaccine location.

If you get a booster at a location outside UCSF, please upload a copy of that record to the Occupational Health Services portal (UCSF MyAccess is required.)

Traveling Internationally Requires Two-Step Testing

Employees may be planning international travel over the holidays. UCSF now requires two-step COVID-19 testing following international travel.

If you are fully vaccinated, you do not need to quarantine but should monitor symptoms for 14 days after return. Individuals returning to onsite work within 10 days following international travel should obtain a COVID-19 test through Color within 24 hours of entering a UCSF facility.

A second COVID-19 test is required three to five days following the first test. Unvaccinated employees will keep the current workflow of a requiring an interview with the COVID Response Team. For more information about travel, visit the travel guidance on the coronavirus website.

ARI Diversity Scholar Award

The AIDS Research Institute is delighted to announce the launch of a new program, the ARI Diversity Scholar Award, to support the retention of early-stage faculty or senior fellows in HIV at UCSF whose work advances the ARI’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). ARI will fund one ARI Diversity Scholar grant ($75,000/year, renewable up to 3 years) annually. The ARI Diversity Scholar Award is intended to provide critical support that will allow faculty to pursue their professional, academic interests so that they may launch successful careers in HIV research, education, and/or clinical care.

Rainin Onsite Service - 12/21/21

Please note, the annual onsite PM service of TC Labs pipets has been scheduled for Tuesday, 12/21. Most of the pipets will be removed from the TC Labs on Monday, 12/20 to prepare them for the PM service. There will be a limited number of pipets left in the TC labs.

Campus Safety and Holiday Security

Over the past 2-months, there have been several reports of on-campus auto burglaries; vandalized vehicles; attempted bike thefts, and a car-fire that resulted from the vehicle being driven into the staircase of one of the campus buildings.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, and Sheriff's Deputies were able to capture the individuals involved in these incidents.

Increased campus patrols will be conducted to deter loitering and suspicious activity, and personal safety escorts are provided 24/7, by calling 415-206-8062 (x68063). Please provide a 20-minute lead time for escort appointments.

Traditionally, during the standard time-change and the holiday season, crime increases. Thieves prey on pedestrians walking alone, and vehicles left unattended with packages or personal belongings visibly inside. Most of these crimes are crimes of opportunity, which in many cases can be avoided.

The results of the nationally representative survey were released as part of a new EdWeek Market Brief special report that looks at what K-12 officials want from education companies in addressing issues of racial diversity, equity, and inclusion."
