Dear Kehillah,

Many of our families are celebrating the 6th night of Chanukah tonight. While there are many traditional spellings for this festival of lights, there is a story that is agreed upon for this tradition and our Dean of Jewish Studies, Dr. Cody Bahir, shares his perspective on this winter holiday in the linked Chanukah article. Click to read more about, "The days of Chanukah are days of thanksgiving and praise."

On campus we have been enjoying a variety of holiday-related activities this festive season.
Congratulations to Isabella T for submitting the winning art for our "Light" themed card!
Special thanks to the awesome KPA for sponsoring our recent latke & donut feast that helped us celebrate Chanukah 2021 with some wonderful traditional noshes. Thank you to the Jewish Life Committee for planning the educational programming. For a glimpse at the festivities, click the brief movie linked here; it includes the fabulous dance competitions that were a part of our modern re-telling of the Chanukah story.
Looking into next week - it is FULL of fun events that you won't want to miss! Details are below, so please do read on.

Did You Know That Kehillah Has a Theater Arts Honor Society?

This year, Kehillah chartered an International Thespian Society Troupe, recognizing excellence in the Theater Arts. Members are inducted once they have completed 100 hours of excellent work in the theatre, equivalent to participation in approximately one or two school productions. Participation in the spring musical The Addams Family alone as an actor or Stage Manager will qualify you for membership! Thespian Society Troupe honors are smart additions to college applications as well as a way to celebrate the dedication of theatrical production.

Congratulations to our Fall 2021 Thespian Society Inductees: Roni Gal-Oz, Henry Koffman, Rachelle Lang, and Peter Leonard!

Daughters Day 2021!

Chag HaBanot, falls on Rosh Chodesh Tevet (Head of the Month of Tevet) which is traditionally a women's holiday (Seniors who took Ms. Elman's Feminism class... remember?) It commemorates Judith and Hannah who were heroines in the stories that took place during the Maccabean revolt (167-160 BCE) who did much to save the Jews from the Seleucid Empire. This year it comes out over the weekend. It was mostly celebrated in Tunisia but there is also evidence that it was celebrated in Jewish communities in Libya, Algeria, Kushta, Morocco, and Thessaloniki. After Jews were persecuted and left these countries the tradition spread. So, do something to celebrate yourself or the fabulous women in your life this weekend for Chag HaBanot! Happy Girls Day! Chag HaBanot Sameach!

Drop off/Pick Up and Parking Lot Safety at Kehillah

In our continual efforts to improve efficiency and safety, we are making a few small changes to how pick-up and drop-off occur.

Most notably, we are asking families to line up and pick up and drop off along the inside lane and pass on the right. This keeps students from walking in the path of passing cars.

In order to expedite this process, we ask that everyone helps by pulling all the way forward when waiting to drop off and pick up students until reaching the loading/unloading zone.

It is important that the passing area remains clear for cars needing to pass and not be used as an additional loading/unloading point.

We have ordered signs to help make it more clear how and where to drop and pick students up and more speed bumps to ensure our parking lot is safe.
Kehillah Stu Gov's Community Tailgate Party!

Covid-19 regulations mean our usual celebration of the Homecoming BBall game has to be live-streamed so we are inviting the whole community to enjoy kosher eats while cheering on the teams in our kikar. The games will be shown our big screen and we hope EVERYONE can be a part of the fun, games & food. All are welcome!!!

Weekly Drash: Dare to Dream
Rabbi Brad Shavit Artson

When we speak of dreams, we mean two different things. On the most literal level, dreams are what we do in our sleep. Psychologists tell us that our dreams reflect the workings of our unconscious mind, sorting through our fears, wishes and desires, attempting to resolve whatever wasn’t clarified in the day that just passed.
