Mayers is committed to providing the community up to date information on the COVID vaccine. Here is the most recent information from Shasta County. The Governor has recently announced new information regarding vaccinations, availability, etc. Please note that each county must still work within the availability of resources. Mayers continues to follow the direction of Shasta County to ensure that we will receive the maximum amount of doses available to us. Mayers is also represented on the Mass Vaccination Clinic workgroup with the county. It is the intention to have mass vaccination clinics throughout the county, including the Intermountain Area.

How Long Does It Take for the Vaccine to Be Effective?
There is a lag of a few weeks between the time of receiving the vaccine to the time the body produces a robust immune response. For some vaccines, minimal immunity may begin approximately 2 weeks after the first dose, but maximum immunity may not be achieved for 2 to 4 weeks after the second dose. Depending on the dosing regimen and schedule, it may take as long as 6 to 8 weeks to get the full benefits of the vaccine. Therefore, it is possible that a person could be infected by COVID-19 just before or just after vaccination and then get sick because the vaccine did not have enough time to provide full protection.

If I already had COVID, do I still need the vaccine?
Yes. The CDC recommends that you get vaccinated even if you have already had COVID-19, because you can catch it more than once. While you may have some short-term antibody protection after recovering from COVID-19, we don't know how long this protection will last. Since people who have had COVID-19 are assumed to have some level of immunity, they may be directed to wait for 90 days before getting the vaccine.

GROUPS BEING VACCINATED NOW (updated Jan. 27)

Who is being vaccinated now? People in Phase 1A (healthcare workers, long-term care facilities, workers in emergency services) and people 75 and older. How can they sign up for vaccine? Options are listed at www.ShastaReady.org (click “Vaccinations”). If you don’t see an option that works for you and if you are eligible now, there are two ways to get on the list to be scheduled for an appointment – click the blue oval labeled Tell me when it’s my turn and complete the short survey, or call (530) 245-7890. Both options will get you on one master list, and Public Health will call or email you to set up an appointment.
NOTE: Clicking on this blue oval and filling out the survey does not make an appointment for you - this will simply send you an email when you are eligible to make an appointment. Please do not call Public Health after filling out this survey. The will be in touch with you as soon as we have an available appointment for you.

Mayers is scheduling age 75 and older as we have vaccine allocations available. The first vaccinations to this age group began last week and are scheduled throughout the week. We will begin scheduling age 65+ soon.
Please complete and submit this FORM.
We will call you to schedule and appointment when we have vaccine availability. Please note that we are scheduling in the order the forms are received within the specific Tiers and Age groups.
