Dear Kehillah,

This week was HoCo Spirit Week and we saw a ton of great community involvement from all of our classes, from the hallways bedazzled with class colors, to the daily themes, to our Homecoming Pep Rally. The final shebang is the Homecoming Dance tomorrow night where "Anything But Your Face...A Masquerade Dance" will take place in our kikar.

Check out the Athletics Update below to find out how our homecoming games went!

If you missed The Salon's Theatre Showcase - performances were wonderful! The live-stream recording can be viewed HERE. Our student's talent never ceases to impress and we are thrilled to enjoy it in person this year.

Do not miss out!

All of our parents and students have received trip information at this time. We have heard from a majority of you and are so excited for these experiences. Making memories off campus and engaging learners in direct experiences and focused reflection increases knowledge, develops skills, informs values, and develops learners' capacities to contribute to their communities.

Mr. Ribay and Dr. Egdorf Host Virtual Q&A with Traci Chee

Answering questions submitted by the students, Chee spoke about her own family's internment as inspiration for the story and her intent to use multiple perspectives to convey the varied experiences of those imprisoned. She shared research, family photographs, and archival documents. She even showed the actual identification tag her father was forced to wear in the camps. In response to the final question from Mayerli H. about whether the characters were finally free at the end of the novel, Chee left students with something to think about by stating her belief in the idea that none of us are free until all of us are free, so there's still a great deal of work to do.

Athletics Update - Homecoming BBall & more

Kehillah basketball was busy this week! Varsity boys and girls played games on Tuesday and Thursday against Pacific Point (Gilroy, non-league), and Summit Prep (Redwood City, league), respectively.

Tuesday’s girls varsity game was dominated from the outset by Pacific Point. The Kehillah girls played some good basketball, but the ball just couldn’t find the net. The girls lost 39-17 and were led by Ilana K. and Olivia S. who each scored seven points. The boys game against Pacific Point was a one-sided affair. Kehillah dominated in all facets of the game and won easily by the score of 54-30. Kehillah was led by Josh L. (25 points).

Thursday’s games were fun for spectators! With a raucous crowd, Kehillah celebrated their homecoming night with girls and boys games against Summit Prep in their first league games of the season. The girls opened the afternoon with a back and forth matchup that was a joy to watch. The game came down to the final minutes, with Kehillah scoring on a clutch three pointer, timely free throws, and icing the game with an offensive rebound and putback. The girls won 27-22 and were led by Ilana K. (9 points) and Ariella S. (7 points).

Following up the great girls' win, the boys played an intense game against a formidable opponent. It was a close game through the first three quarters (47-40) and then Kehillah took over, outscoring Summit Prep 20-6 in the fourth quarter. The varsity boys finished off the homecoming evening with a convincing 67-46 win and were led by Josh L. (27 points) and Ittai K. (13 points).

We will have our final games before Winter Break on Tuesday at home against Mid-Peninsula.

Theater 1 Students Create Brown Paper Man Puppets

Ms. Cole-Farrell shared with students how to use the methodology of Gyre & Gimble, a celebrated Puppet Theatre Company from Great Britain. Brown Paper Man puppets, made from brown kraft paper, have a similar feel to Japanese Bunraku puppets. In this series of photos, the mini ensembles create their puppets and, as seen in the videos, began experimenting with the three fundamental elements of Brown Paper Man puppet movement: Breath, Focus, and Weight.

Weekly Drash: Are We Our Brother's Keeper?
By Dr. Josh Krug

"Joseph’s sudden appreciation of the depth of Judah’s learning and courage and vulnerability concerning what it means to be a caring brother leads him to respond in turn with vulnerability as well as honesty. Tears spontaneously gush forth and he suddenly cannot bear to keep the truth of his identity hidden from his brothers. He says, “I am Joseph.”
