Award Winning Design Kicks Off Holidays
Ahhhh....we are relaxing into cooler weather and a slightly slower real estate pace and loving every minute of it. Riding high off our 1st place win at the annual LRES Trunk or Treat event (thanks to the creative work of Mary Afton-Tarr and Jackie Steventon!), we are using this time to plan our next team event. Our third annual Thanksgiving Pie Giveaway Party will be held at Cathy's house on November 21, 2021 and we are working on details for our Christmas and Winter Holiday Celebration. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at these fun and safe (outdoor) events!

Thank you for those of you who've shared feedback (compliments only, so far!) on the newsletter. We hope to keep it short, sweet, and fun. We would love to have your contributions! The Most Wonderful Girl...
Part 2 of the story of the sweetest little cocktail book ever: Prior to finding this adorable, playing card-sized book of cocktails, my go-to drink recipes had been mostly limited to two ingredient drinks, mostly gin & tonics or maybe a screwdriver. But anyone following me on Facebook or Instagram knows dinners out have always enthusiastically highlighted specialty cocktails on the menu. And so while I thought "a guide to pink elephants" was adorable, I don't think we would have embarked on our drink a day journey had it not been for the handwritten note on the front inside cover. When I read that note, I was hooked and our adventure in 1950s cocktails began!

Drink recipes from the fifties seem simple as compared to the intricately complex drinks we enjoy in restaurants today but that simplicity is charming in a way. We are learning about different types of alcohol (hmmmm...Cognac is brandy but not all brandies are Cognac) and we especially enjoy that the drinks are mostly quite petite. Missed the first installment of this story? Read it here. And look for one of our favorite recipes in our next newsletter.
Dated 1 November, 1952, the inscription on the inside cover of "a guide to pink elephants" reads "Given to me this day by the most wonderful girl in the whole world. My Irene."
"Art is Too Important Not to Share" ~Romero Britto
Since we do a fair amount of estate work, we don't always have the opportunity to meet the owners of the houses we sell. In this case, we are especially disappointed because this owner was fascinating! Nearly every inch of his home had been treated as an opportunity to make art and there were art installations everywhere--to include this truly unique piece in the back yard. While the artwork had to be dismantled, we didn't want to remove it until it had been admired, photographed, and shared.

Dear Cathy...
Q: Hi Cathy! I have a design question. Edinson is coming today to do electrical work in the family room and in our kitchen. He is also going to replace old recessed lights with new ones and add some lights to the table space area. Question: Do you think we should have a light fixture over the table in the kitchen or just the recessed lights? Thanks! Laura

A: Oh, I can totally relate to having this question--we have this very conversation all the time as we decide how to update lighting in kitchens. Ultimately what drives our final decision is the overall kitchen and cabinet layout. In the kitchen featured in the top two pictures above, the cabinets, door to the garage, and the pantry were all competing for space, making table placement a little tricky. In this case, we removed a fixture and installed recessed lighting so table placement could be flexible.

If there are no obstacles and no questions as to the placement of the table, an interesting light fixture, such as the fixture shown in the third picture, adds impact and style to a kitchen. We spend a ton of time picking out lighting that adds to and complements our overall design. It's typically a great way to make a budget-friendly impact in the room.

Remembering Oscar
Initially we had planned to use this space to welcome Delta, stager Deb DeYoung's new cute pup, but we just couldn't do it without first remembering and saying goodbye to Oscar. Oscar was a favorite with everyone he met and was very loved by the DeYoung family. We will miss Oscar's happy face shared in pictures as he explored Royal Lake and kept his mommy company. Goodbye, Sweet Oscar! You will be missed! (Delta, we will see you next time!)
