Dayton Literary Peace Prize Author Virtually Visits Tipp Students
Our library was honored to virtually host Dayton Literary Peace Prize (DLPP) winning author, Susan Southard, at Tippecanoe High School where she discussed her DLPP-winning book Nagasaki: Life After Nuclear War. Four students participated in a podcast interview with Southard, working with WYSO 91.3 to create the episode, which will be published on Dayton Youth Radio soon. Students also took part in a Q&A session after the presentation.

Thanks to Susan Southard and thanks to all of our sponsors. This event was made possible with support from the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, Tipp City Foundation, Tippecanoe Educational Endowment, WYSO 91.3 radio station, Robinson-Walters Family Fund, the students, community members, our library staff, and high school faculty and staff who made this event a success.
INFOhio Digital Resources Available for Students
INFOhio is a free digital library for students in Pre-K through 12th grade that offers quality resources to enhance students' learning experience. Mrs. Torrence is serving as the I-Coach for Tipp City Schools and our library's Heidi Martin as an I-Partner.

Click here to watch Heidi Martin and Mrs. Wendy Torrence on their Facebook Live video that is also posted on our library's Facebook page for details on INFOhio. You do not have to have a Facebook account to view any of our library's virtual programs and videos.

To begin exploring, visit INFOhio today and search the database using "Statewide User" as the login. Students have access to their school library along with other school's libraries, as this database serves as the school network of resources that is typically only available to librarians and teachers, but is now open to users at home. If you have any questions, call us during our hours of operation at (937) 667-3826 or email us at info@tippcitylibrary.org.
Large Art Installation Approaches!
Final preparations are taking place for our library's large art installation to be on permanent display on the exterior wall of the alley. We received over 70 words to be considered as part of this wall art and will be narrowing the words down to 15-20 words for the mural. The muralist, Atalie Gagnet, will begin the process the last week of September--stop by our library and watch the magic happen!

Events Planned for the Whole Family
Preschoolers Invited to Meet the Library at the Park
As a result of COVID-19, programs and storytimes at our library have been altered to maintain the safety of our patrons and staff. The Children's Department at our library knows that both parents and children are longing for visits to the library--to have fun by singing, dancing and learning again with Miss Heidi and Miss Julie. We have made great efforts to modify our storytimes to maintain everyone's safety and invite children, ages 2 to 5 years old, to join us at area parks with a parent or guardian. Join us for social “dis-dancing” and stories on the remaining consecutive Tuesdays in September:

Tipp City Park
Tuesday, September 22
10:30-11:00 a.m.
Meet up with Miss Heidi and Miss Julie at the Tipp City Park in the green space by the bathrooms for music, creative movement, active games and BUBBLES!

Kyle Park
Tuesday, September 29
10:30-11:00 a.m.
Come and see Miss Heidi and Miss Julie at Kyle Park next to the Shelter House located by the soccer fields. During these storytime sessions, enjoy audience participation stories, songs and demonstration of a craft that children can take with them and do at home.

In case of rain, the activities will be moved to Thursday morning of the same week at the same time and place. For more information on requirements for participation to ensure the safety and health of our library staff and patrons, visit the Children's department web page to learn more. We are so excited to be able to meet with our youngest patrons again and have some fun! See you at the park, friends!
Help with Accelerated Reader (AR) Leveled Books
The Children's Department at our library offers a wide selection of Leveled Reader books with signage throughout the area for assistance while comparing Accelerated Reader (AR) levels to Guided Reading or Lexile Ratings. Our library typically provides the AR information in the first few pages of an AR book, but some books are too new to receive an AR rating. Thankfully, there are a few resources that can help determine these AR points and AR levels of books without having to look at each book on our shelves.

If you have an iOS 12.1 or later, or an Android 4.4 and up, there is a free app called Points Scan that you can download. Points Scan lets you scan a book's bar code and you receive the AR information. If the book does not have a bar code, Points Scan also includes both a title and author search. This app is compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices along with Android phones. Visit the Straight Path Apps website to learn more.

There is also a website that provides the needed AR information. You can search for book titles based on authors, topics or titles of books. The book details are listed with everything from the interest level to the word count and rating, while also providing the AR points. Visit www.arbookfind.com to learn more.

Our library staff is also available to assist with locating AR information. Stop by our library and one of our staff members can assist you.

Virtual Book Club
Catch up with our library's Virtual Book Club this week on our Facebook page. This week, we focus on For Every One by Jason Reynolds.

Originally performed at the Kennedy Center for the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, For Every One is a stirring and inspirational poem written for all of the dreamers in the world, especially the young dreamers who do not dare to dream because they have never seen a dream come true. Reynolds writes from personal experience in the hopes that he can encourage dreamers to never give up in reaching their dreams, even if it takes longer than they hoped, and even if the road to the dream is a difficult path.

You can find For Every One for download on one of our free online streaming services like Hoopla or Libby.
