Know someone looking to relocate to Michigan? Share this event with them!
This year, 9 regions around the state will host Back To Michigan, a series of virtual networking events where people interested in relocating to Michigan, and current residents who are unemployed, will be able to speak directly with hiring managers. Rediscover opportunities in the Mitten State by connecting with local employers and former residents.
You may be familiar with Thanksgiving weekend events that have happened around the state over the last nine years. These casual, professional networking events, usually hosted at a local bar, have become a tradition in many Michigan communities.
As with many things, Covid-19 has derailed the typical format of these events. So instead, communities around Michigan decided to come together for a collaborative, virtual career event happening between November 17-24, 2020 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Back To Michigan will feature region-specific events throughout the week leading up to Thanksgiving.
  • Return North, Tuesday, November 17
  • TC New Tech, Wednesday, November 18
  • Detroit & Flint, Thursday, November 19
  • ReThink West Michigan, Thursday, November 19
  • Capital Comeback, Monday, November 23
  • Discover Great Lakes Bay, Monday, November 23
  • Northeast Lower Peninsula, Tuesday, November 24
The benefits of attending:
- One-on-One face time with company recruiters in a casual environment.
- Community Ambassadors will be on-hand to answer any relocation questions you have.
- Local school district representatives will available for questions.

Holiday Window Night Award

Scheduled for the week of December 7, 2020
Sponsored by Elk Rapids Women

Dear Elk Rapids business owners,

Are you ready to show your holiday spirit? Mark your calendars and get your seasonal decorations out for the annual Window Night Award, sponsored by Elk Rapids Women.

This tradition started in the 1950s when the local Business and Professional Women’s group wanted to encourage the community to decorate for Santa’s arrival. Though our group’s name has changed, the tradition has not! Each year our committee of anonymous judges visits local businesses to pick the best holiday display. Judging is based on:
Christmas Appeal 30%
Originality 25%
Work and Effort 15%
Visual Appeal 15%
Neatness 15%

All decorated business windows/displays in the Elk Rapids area will be judged. If you think you might be missed due to your out-of-the-way location, just send us your address and directions, and we’ll make sure you are on the judges’ list.

Judging will commence after dark during the week of December 7, so remember to spotlight your decorations and keep the lights on! The committee will announce the winner on Thursday, December 10. Winners will be notified and their names will be posted in the Elk Rapids News, as well as on the Elk Rapids Women’s Facebook page.

If you have questions, contact us at elkrapidswomen@gmail.com.

remember to Keep those lights on!
During this time it would be so cool to "Light up the Town" with Christmas lights and decorations! Something everyone can enjoy.

One happy customer, a 13 year old who takes lessons from Bonnie....

"As a student of Ms. Bonnie Twiss, I enjoy her lessons very much because she makes learning piano very fun, and her personality is fun to be around! She has taken the Corona Virus very seriously with strong safety measures, while maintaining a high level of excellent instruction. When I leave my lesson, I am already excited for the next one!"

Re: Thanksgiving greetings from Raven Hill

Hello, Everyone!
I know you have heard this too many times already, but the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website says, “As cases continue to increase rapidly across the United States, the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to celebrate at home with the people you live with.” For many of us, it will likely make it a very different Turkey Day this year. In an attempt to “lift” your spirits, I share the following memories and ideas with you.  Continue Reading

STEM Career Investigator
Sustaining STEM Opportunities Across our Region

(TRAVERSE CITY - Northwest Lower Michigan) Newton's Road is delighted to announce the launch of the Career Investigator for Northwest Michigan. This online platform helps students explore STEM-related careers that are in high demand in our region, as well as nationally recognized local programs that result in great-paying jobs--often before students graduate.
Jason Slade, Director of Technical Academic Area at NMC, and his staff have been a key provider of career pathway data. He states: "The Career Investigator website built by Newton's Road has already become a critical component of our career advising. While the tool is still in development, it has already become one of my "go to" resources to highlight the exciting high-wage, high-skill STEM careers in the region. The Career Investigator isn't just for high school students, but is beneficial to parents, adults seeking retraining, high school counselors and the community in general. It highlights cutting edge careers and provides the educational pathway to get there. These pathways include everything from Career Tech Center programs to apprenticeships to certificates to 2 and 4-year degrees. As the Career Investigator grows, it will become an even bigger part of informing the community of the opportunities that exist in the region. I am very excited by this and thankful for the work of Newton's Road!".......................
