You also have the option of downloading an eBook from one of our free streaming services like Hoopla or Libby. Need help finding a good book? Call us during our hours of operation at (937) 667-3826 or email us at info@tippcitylibrary.org and one of our staff members will assist you.
Our Returned Items Process
Our library continues to adjust our services and processes to maintain the safety of our patrons and staff during the pandemic. The Ohio Library Council (OLC) provides our library with information related to ongoing studies from Battelle Memorial Institute with COVID-19 and library materials. Our library will have a longer quarantining period for returned items of seven days, which will affect the wait time of materials placed on hold and also returned items removed off of your account. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to make adjustments to our services to ensure the safety of our staff and community. As always, our library remains fine free, so you will not be charged any fees relating to returned items and our quarantining process. If you have any questions, feel free to call us during our hours of operation at (937) 667-3826 or email us at info@tippcitylibrary.org.
Large Art Installation Nearing Completion
Muralist, Atalie Gagnet, and her team, are making amazing progress on the large art installation that is happening on our exterior wall in the alley that is shared with Coldwater Café. An event announcement formally unveiling the artwork will be coming soon--stay connected with our library through our Facebook page and our newsletter to receive updates on the painting process and the latest information.

This large art installation is community funded--THANK YOU to our supporters and individual donors who have funded this project--this project would not be possible without the support of the Tipp City Foundation, Tipp City Area Arts Council and the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce Teen Leadership Academy. As part of the mural, all of our sponsors will be permanently acknowledged on the wall with their name/organization painted on a brick of their very own. If interested in learning more about supporting this project, contact our Library Director, Lisa Santucci, at (937) 667-3826 or director@tippcitylibrary.org.

Overdue for a Brew: American Brewing Before Craft Beer
Beer was a niche beverage in the United States before a wave of German immigration in the mid-19th century began the ascendancy of lager on these shores. Brewers adapted German lager styles to American ingredients, and existing ale breweries adapted their own products to suit changing tastes.

On October 14, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., join us on Facebook Live on our Facebook page for this program, as beer writer David Nilsen talks about the rich history of brewing in the United States--a history that began long before the rise of modern craft beer. You do not have to have a Facebook account to view any of our library's virtual programs.

Virtual Book Club
Catch up with our library's Virtual Book Club this week on our library's Facebook page. This week, we focus on Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

Wild follows the story of Cheryl Strayed who, at twenty-two, thought she had lost everything after her Mother’s death resulted in her family scattered and her marriage destroyed. Four years later, she made the most impulsive decision of her life to hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Coast Trail with no experience or training. Told with suspense and style, and shining with warmth and humor, Wild captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman pressing ahead against all odds on a journey that made her stronger and ultimately healed her.

You can find Wild for download on one of our free online streaming services like Hoopla or Libby.
Events Planned for the Whole Family
Final Storytime Session at the Park
The Children’s Department at our library has just one more storytime session in October for the successful Storytime in the Park series for preschoolers that started in September. On Tuesday, October 13 at 10:30 a.m., join Miss Heidi and Miss Julie at Kyle Park near the Shelter House by the soccer fields for stories, songs, and a take-home craft. In case of inclement weather, the program will move to the Thursday of the same week at 10:30 a.m. No pre-registration is required, but you will be asked to sign-in when you arrive at the park. Adults are asked to wear masks and bring along lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on.

Kyle Park
Tuesday, October 13 - Travel by Land, Air and Sea
10:30-11:00 a.m.
Come and see Miss Heidi and Miss Julie at Kyle Park next to the Shelter House located by the soccer fields. During this storytime session, enjoy audience participation stories, songs and demonstration of a craft that children can take to do at home.

For additional information on requirements for participation to ensure the safety and health of our library staff and patrons, visit the Children's department web page to learn more.
Upcoming Holiday Celebration Announcements
Unfortunately, our library is not hosting a Family Halloween Party this year, but we have planned several other FUN activities for your family at our library.

Stop by our library anytime between October 12 through 31 and try one of our contests for families to enjoy. Try the Spooky Silhouette Scavenger Hunt on the walls throughout the Children’s Department. Grab the contest sheet and a crayon from the table near the back entrance and search for the Halloween characters hidden among the silhouettes of leaves on the walls. Check off the ones you find on your contest entry form and then turn it in at our main circulation desk for a prize. Try spotting the differences in Miss Julie’s Spooky Spot the Difference Contest in the display case by the back entrance. The challenge sheets are also on the table in the Children’s Department. See if you can find the 10 things that are different in the two sections of the display, then turn in your contest form at the main circulation desk for a prize.

On Saturday, October 31, our library is passing out treats during the Downtown Merchant’s Harry Potter Trick or Treat celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Stay connected with our library through our newsletter for upcoming announcements regarding changes to our Family Holiday Open House and visit with Santa in December.
#LookToLibraries - Discover the Power of Libraries
Connecting your children to libraries and library professionals opens up a world of resources, information and community partnerships that can support families with early literacy, media mentoring, recommending high-quality books and media, and leading students to the resources they need for their school work.

As an example, the two computers in the children’s area, called AWE Early Learning Stations, are loaded with fun, educational games for preschoolers and early elementary children. There are over 75 award-winning titles to choose from. These stations are a great way for children to learn to use a mouse, keyboard, and touch screens. Did you know there are games to help children practice writing letters in the Alive Alphabet Tracing program? Writing Wizard is another program that teaches children how to write upper and lower case letters, as well as practice the sounds of the letters.

Can’t make it into the library? Try the INFOhio Early Learning Portal, designed for parents and educators of children ages three through five. INFOhio encourages adults to use these digital resources with children, providing guidance and support. A new partnership with Highlights magazine has brought 500 digital stories with accompanying speaking, listening, and thinking activities to the INFOhio site. The collection of fiction and nonfiction stories for K-5 readers from Highlights and Highlights High Five magazines includes engaging stories and articles that are beautifully illustrated by award-winning artists and contain content that encourages learning and reading. Find this new resource under the All INFOhio Resources tab or click here to begin exploring today!
