Upcoming Worship
IN-PERSON & LIVE-STREAM WORSHIP
Sun Sep 25, 10:00am “Moving Gracefully Through Change ~ Rev. Patience Stoddard

Organizational consultant William Bridges wrote, “It’s a paradox: To achieve continuity, we have to be willing to change. Change is, in fact, the only way to protect whatever exists.” Guest worship leader Rev. Patience Stoddard examines the opportunities and challenges that come with transition, including some that our congregation explored in Saturday's Path to the Future workshop. We also recognize the beginning of the Jewish Holy Week that starts this evening with Rosh Hashanah, the time for self-examination and repentance. Rev. Patience Stoddard is our ministerial consultant, helping us navigate through our ministerial transition happening next summer.
Religious Exploration classes for 1st-9th graders meet this Sunday (details below). Youth Group is on break this week. Childcare is available.

Covid safety policy update: We are no longer requiring proof of vaccination. (You are welcome to remove the blue dot from your name tag.) We continue to require masks for those in the building.

CUUC Mosaic of Identities

Remember to bring back the hexagon pieces you designed to reflect the identities you carry with you into community. Blank hexagons and supplies will be available in the sanctuary and during coffee hour through September. If you are attending by Zoom, Tracy (cuucwptracy@gmail.com) would be happy to mail mosaic pieces to you and then place them with the others after you mail them back. We look forward to learning about and celebrating the multilayered identities in our CUUC community.
Messages from Ministry

Sun Sep 25, 1st-9th Grade Classes (no Youth Group)
1st-9th grade classes meet at 10:00am. Children and youth go directly to classrooms, not the sanctuary. Youth Group does not meet this Sunday. Signs will be posted every Sunday indicating what we are doing in RE, where to go at 10:00am, and who is leading the activities for each group. Children in 3rd grade and younger must be picked up in their rooms (yellow hallway) after worship. Please pick up children before heading to coffee hour so RE leaders can go to their next activities. The 8th-9th grade OWL class meets until 11:45am. We all wear masks Sunday mornings and skip snacks for now. The schedule online here is updated regularly.

Sat Oct 1, 10:00am RE PlaceKeeping
RE PlaceKeeping begins alongside the October "First Saturday" PlaceKeeping Practice! The PlaceKeeping team has planned activities for children and youth that will lead into the work the students will be doing this year, photographing and recording seasonal changes in the life around our building and mapping our community in relation to natural resources.

Sun Oct 2, 1st-12th Grade Classes & Youth Group Meet

This Sunday's gathering music celebrates the work of Unitarian composer Edvard Grieg, whose work looked towards the future in its harmonic daring while remaining firmly rooted in the folk traditions of his native Norway. The Offertory centers the upcoming Jewish New Year Rosh Hashana with a traditional Hasidic melody arranged by the Detroit-born Paul Schoenfield. The CUUC Choir is also on hand with the Spiritual "Hush, Somebody's Calling My Name" as well as a Jewish folk song based on Psalm 133... Click here to read Adam Kent's blog post.
Congregation & Community News
Congregation Workshop

“Path to the Future” Congregation Workshop, Sat Sep 24, 8:30am – 4:00pm, Fellowship Hall
Join us for a fast-paced, and engaging congregation workshop where we address the questions: • Where have we been? • Where are we now? • Where are we going next? It is vital to our coming transition that we hear your voice, and that we all hear each other. Participation open to everyone at CUUC ages 13 and up. Breakfast and lunch provided. Childcare available. Click to RSVP for the workshop. Walk-ins welcome!
Increased Need at HOPE

Next Meals for HOPE meal prep: Mon Sep 26, 10:00am-2:00pm, CUUC Kitchen
Asylum seekers are being bused from Texas to NYC, and the impact is being felt at HOPE Community Services' soup kitchen, which has seen the number of daily dinner clients jump from 120 to 170. This is an opportunity for UUs to act to support the innocent and combat injustice. Our Meals for HOPE cooking team is stepping up by RETURNING TO A WEEKLY SCHEDULE, preparing more meals to deliver to HOPE and the Open Arms shelter. Help put our congregation's mission into action by giving the team a hand. Click here to see the different ways you can help. Sign up in advance using the HOPE Planning Schedule.
Families Supporting HOPE Soup Kitchen

Inviting Donations of Food Items from the Congregation
HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle is busier than ever. A dedicated team at CUUC has been preparing weekly meals for the HOPE soup kitchen for many years. Families are now getting involved by providing 70 to-go breakfasts and lunches. We invite the congregation to donate individual-sized food items such as shelf-stable milk, juice, water, fruit cups, and soft granola bars, as well as napkins, loaves of bread, and peanut butter. Leave them in the labeled bins located in the foyer. Frozen items such as French toast, pancakes, waffles, frozen sausages or patties (no pork) can be brought in the morning of Sat Oct 29, or as coordinated with Christine Haran (christineharan@yahoo.com).

Usher Ministry

One way to “nurture each other in our spiritual journeys” is to volunteer as a Sunday morning usher. We’re looking for individuals—or pairs—to serve as lead usher approximately every 6-8 weeks. Training happily given. Contact Karen Leahy (karenleahy101@gmail.com) or talk to her after service.
Host a Coffee Hour

Help nourish connection in our congregation by supporting our after-worship social time. Volunteer to prepare our coffee and bring a treat by signing up at bit.ly/CUUC-Coffee-Hour-2022. Contact: Chris Kortlandt (kortlandtbunch@gmail.com)
No More Dots

While the initial Covid vaccinations have reduced the chance of severe illness, they are not preventing infection or spread of the current variants. We are therefore not requiring proof of vaccination to attend in-person worship at this time. You are welcome to remove the blue dot (indicating vaccination) from your name tag.
From Refugee Resettlement

Got leads? The Interfaith Council for New Americans of Westchester (ICNAW) is looking for leads or contacts that could help some refugees whom we are currently resettling (click to learn more) find new jobs. You can share information with the ICNAW Employment Committee chair, Gene Tozzi, at etozzi@gmail.com. Gene can then send a resume as needed.
September Share the Plate: Interfaith Council for New Americans of Westchester

We donate half our non-pledge collection to the Interfaith Council for New Americans of Westchester (ICNAW), a coalition of local congregations (including CUUC) that welcomes refugees resettled in our area. To date, ICNAW has provided support to 11 adult refugees and 12 children, two of whom were born in the US. Click here for an update on our refugee families or contact Robin Rocchi (robinandal@verizon.net) or Jane Dixon (lilrhodie@gmail.com) to learn more. Mail checks to CUUC with the memo “Share the Plate - ICNAW” or click here to pay online, and select “Share the Plate.” You may also select “Other” and type in “ICNAW” in the note if you'd like your full donation to go to the group.
Caring & Sharing

If we can help you or someone you know in our congregation, reach out to this month's primary caregivers: Patricia Litcofsky (914-772-2621, patricia.litcofsky@gmail.com), or her backup, Liz Laite (914-366-4211, em.laite@verizon.net). You may also contact the CUUC office (admin@cucwp.org).
Volunteer!

Find your place at CUUC as you engage in service. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and build connection with fellow congregants.
