Dear Yorkville J2 School District Families, Staff, and Partners:
Like you, we are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas. We share in the heartbreak and feel for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence and cowardness. School should, and must be, a place where students feel completely safe and secure.
We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. Our School Counselor, Leah Martone, is available to assist students who may need some extra support. Here are some other points we would like to communicate:
- Yorkville J2 School District has a comprehensive Crisis Response Plan.
- Yorkville J2 School District has a close and positive working relationship with the Racine County Sheriff's Department.
- Yorkville J2 School District regularly utilizes the Raptor visitor management system to monitor the background of everyone who visits our buildings.
This past March 2022, I sent out an article regarding school safety. I am hopeful that everyone has read that article, however, I fully realize busy schedules may have resulted in some recipients deleting or glossing it over. Given the Texas situation, I felt it appropriate to re-share the March newsletter. It is linked here .
We want to take the opportunity to thank parents and other visitors for following and modeling safety protocols while in our school building, and during every visit. This includes what may seem minor, such as parking lot pick-up procedures, building access, and locked doors from our evening and weekend facility users.
